Virgin River has seen Ricky (played by Grayson Maxwell Gurnsey) struggle with feeling invisible in the town over the past three seasons, with the character considering joining the Marines at the end of season three. His future in the Netflix series hangs in the balance, as his decision was left open-ended when the credits hit on the third season. Gurnsey recently opened up on what he thinks Ricky will decide in season four.

Will Ricky leave Virgin River to join the Marines?

Virgin River season four has not been confirmed by Netflix, but that hasn’t stopped speculation coming from all sides.

Both viewers and stars on the show have been sharing their hopes for the fourth season, with the show not lacking in cliffhangers.

One of the potentially major changes for the show is Ricky’s decision to leave the town and join the Marines.

While Ricky hasn’t made his decision yet, season three ended with all signs pointing to him leaving the town for good.

The show is notorious for its twists and shocking reveals, and with Mel Monroe’s (Alexandra Breckenridge) baby drama overshadowing season four, anything is possible for the rest of the characters.

Ricky star Grayson Maxwell Gurnsey recently spoke with The Permanent Rain Press to discuss his thoughts on where Ricky could go on season four.

“None of the cast knows what’s going on except for what they might have been told at the beginning of filming,” Gurnsey explains.

The star continued: “Knowing from season to season, just don’t ask, you won’t get an answer.”

However, Gurnsey did reveal what he would like to see Ricky do in the next season, pulling from the original Robyn Carr novels for inspiration.

Gurnsey added: “[Ricky’s] arc is definitely interesting to in the books.

“I think he’s definitely going to go to the Marines for sure, but I think the real dependence is if he’s going to make up with Lizzie (Sarah Dugdale) or not.”

Ricky and Lizzie’s relationship is up in the air at the moment, with it unclear where they could possibly go moving into the fourth season.

It isn’t clear if they will continue to have a romantic relationship, or if they will just remain friends.

However, as Gurnsey notes in the interview, in the books, Ricky does join the Marines but returns back injured.

This represents a dramatic shift for the character, both emotionally and how he interacts with the other characters in the story, most notably Lizzie.

If Ricky does join the Marines, it isn’t clear how much he will be involved in the story and how it will affect his development in season four.

Virgin River is more popular than ever, with the third season immediately racing to the top of the Netflix most-watched charts.

Fan outcry for the fourth season has been non-stop since the third dropped, with many of them taking to Twitter to share their hopes of its quick return.

One fan wrote: “I needed season 4 of Virgin River like yesterday.”

Another added: “Just finished Virgin River and WHAAAAAT. How could they end it like that! There better be a season 4 coming. I’m too invested!” (sic)

Virgin River seasons 1-3 are available to watch exclusively on Netflix.
