The latest season of Yellowstone has featured the dramatic return of Josh Lucas, who has portrayed a younger John Dutton (played by Kevin Costner) in a number of revealing flashbacks about the powerful ranch owners. However, before he was brought back to his iconic Paramount Network role, the US actor had to turn down the opportunity to surgically enhance his resemblance to the iconic Hollywood star.

Josh revealed he refused to be given a copy of Kevin’s nose after his own was torn off his face in a horrific accident.

The TV and film star is currently back portraying young John, and his appearances have exposed some stunning revelations about the Dutton family.

His imitation of Kevin’s stunning performance as the Dutton patriarch has been one of the highlights of season five, but his resemblance to the actor could have been even more uncanny.

In his latest talk show appearance, Josh recalled working with a woodchipper which resulted in a nasty medical emergency.

“I was working with what’s called a woodchipper,” he explained. “It’s a wood splitter, it’s a gas-powered machine which takes huge pieces of…”

The Late Late Show host James Corden broke down laughing and admitted: “I’ve never felt less manly!”

Josh chuckled and continued: “It takes giant pieces of wood, in this case, old-growth oak, and splits them into smaller pieces.

“So, unfortunately, wood sometimes has energy inside of it, which is a strange thing to realise.”

“It actually has little pockets of air, or whatever. And it exploded. I mean truly exploded.”

Josh claimed his entire nose was taken off his face when one piece of wood was flung from the machine.

He said: “One of the pieces came back and hit me full-on in the nose. Took my nose off my face, truly.

“Genuinely, I was unrecognisable. The first thing they do is re-break it. I went to the doctor, he said, ‘You need to see a fancy doctor and get this fixed properly.’”

The Yellowstone actor went to a plastic surgeon in Los Angeles, who tried to convince him to try out a new nose.

“I had just found out I was going back on Yellowstone,” he continued. “He says, ‘This is what you’re going to look like as Kevin Costner, with Kevin Costner’s nose!’

“He shows me Kevin Costner, he shows me my face with Kevin’s nose.

“I was like, ‘No man! I want my nose!’ He goes, ‘Why would you want your nose when you can have Kevin’s nose?’ But I really want my nose back, please.”

Josh stunned James and fellow guest Kerry Condon by revealing his current nose is now completely fake after the surgery.

Thankfully, fans haven’t been able to tell the difference, although some may feel he missed a trick by not taking the chance to look more like his famous co-star.

The actor is expected to return for more flashbacks this season, while the Dutton saga also delves even deeper into the past with the new prequel 1923 premiering this Sunday.

Yellowstone season 5 continues Sundays on the Paramount Network and the following Monday on Paramount+.
