Mother of Britain’s biggest family Sue Radford escapes car crash uninjured just days after her and husband Noel announce they are taking a break from 22 Kids and Counting

  • Mother-of-22 Sue Radford is known as the mother of Britain’s largest family
  • Their reality TV show, 22 Kids and Counting, will soon start its fourth season

Sue Radford, the mother of ‘Britain’s biggest family’, managed to dodge serious injury after being involved in a car crash.

The 47-year-old reality TV star and mother-of-22 told her 507,000 Instagram followers that nobody was injured in the smash on Monday.

She wrote: ‘Not how I expected my day to go but thankfully everyone was ok. The car isn’t but it’s only metal and can be sorted.’

She thanked bystanders who checked on her after the crash and confirmed she did not have her children in the car.

Radford and her husband Noel, 52, star in a popular reality television show, ’22 Kids and Counting’, which recently renewed for a fourth season.

The crash comes after an announcement last Wednesday the family would be taking a ‘well-earned little break’ from filming ahead of the start of the new series.

The Radfords share their 10-bedroom house, formerly a care home, in Morecambe with 19 children.

They list their children as Chris, Sophie, Chloe, Jack, Daniel, Luke, Millie, Katie, James, Ellie, Aimee, Josh, Max, Tillie, Oscar, Casper, Hallie, Phoebe, Archie, Bonnie and Heidie.

The parents lost their 17th child, Alfie, in July 2014.

The show ’22 Kids and Counting’ provides an insight into their day-to-day lives together, with the parents reflecting on different challenges and why they have such a big family.

Season 3 followed the Radfords as the United Kingdom prepared to go into lockdowns.

British viewers were introduced to the family in ’15 Kids and Counting’ in 2012, a series looking at how big families organised and coped with ordinary tasks.

Over the last 11 years, they have built a steady following, garnering 359,000 subscribers and over 71 million views on YouTube, where they share vlogs, hauls and ‘challenges’.

Addressing fans last week, they wrote: ‘We truly appreciate each and every comment and message we’ve received so thank you.

‘So chuffed to say our programme was no.1 on ch5 most Sundays and doing really well on my5 every week with it being the most watched programme on my5.’

Noel and Sue met when she was seven.

In 2019, on their Channel 4 documentary ’21 Kids and Counting’, the narrator revealed that the then-42-year-old mother first became pregnant with Christopher ’29 years ago’, which viewers worked out would have made her 13.

Her husband, five years her senior, would have been 17 or 18.

After marrying in 1993, they welcomed their second child, Sophie, when Ms Radford was 17.

Most recently, Heidie was born in April 2020, at the start of the lockdowns.

The couple appeared in ’15 Kids and Counting’ in 2012 and have documented their life since

Prior to the accident, Noel Radford had shared a photo of mother Sue across social media for Mother’s Day.

They wrote:  ‘Happy Mother’s Day to this wonderful woman who puts everyone first before even thinking of herself.

‘She is my rock and all of our kids love her dearly. Hope you have enjoyed your day.’
