A cottage which had a cameo role in one of Britain’s best-loved TV adverts is up for auction for £150,000.

The three-bedroomed Grade II-listed building on Gold Hill in Shaftesbury, Dorset, is seen in Ridley Scott’s ‘Boy on Bike’ television advert for Hovis bread in 1973.

Number 16 Gold Hill is halfway up what has been dubbed ‘Hovis Hill’ and is in need of complete renovation, although work to extend and refurbish the property has been partly completed.

Auctioneers Symonds & Sampson say once completed the cottage would make an ideal home, second home or holiday let.

Gold Hill was immortalised in the 1973 Hovis ad which saw a young bakery boy struggling to push his bike up the cobbled street with a basket full of bread to the last house on his round.

In it, the lad is heard to say that delivering bread to the house on top of the hill ‘t’was like taking bread to the top of the world.’

The commercial, directed by Ridley Scott, was voted Britain’s all-time favourite TV advert in 2006.

It was meant to depict a northern industrial town but was actually shot in the quaint southern market town.

For this reason, it is still known to many as ‘Hovis Hill’ and is still a popular spot for tourists to visit.

This property has a kitchen and three reception rooms on the ground floor, two bedrooms on the first floor and a bedroom on the second floor.

The cottage is currently derelict but conversations have been held with the council to extend and refurbish it
