The scooter rider suffered a broken leg and head injuries and needed hospital treatment following the crash.

Barclay, from Hartlepool, admitted drink driving at Teesside Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday.

Prosecutor Lynne Dalton told magistrates that police were called to the scene of the accident at 10.25pm on April 12.

She said: ‘Officers found a man lying in the road and an e-scooter close to the man.

‘Officers spoke to Ms Barclay and she told them that the man had gone through a red light and hers was on green.’

Barclay then said ‘I’ve killed him, I’ve killed him, I know I have’ as the man lay in road.

A roadside breath test was carried out and Barclay was found to have 46mg of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35.

She was then arrested by officers.

Barclay, who represented herself at Teesside Magistrates’ Court said: ‘I am so sorry for everything and it was a huge mistake’

Barclay, who represented herself in court, told magistrates of her remorse and that she had lost her job as a result of the incident.

She said: ‘I am so sorry for everything and it was a huge mistake.

‘My main concern was how he was and making sure he was OK and I co-operated at the scene.

‘It will live with me forever. It was a massive mistake.’

Magistrates banned Barclay from driving for 14 months and fined her £120. She must also pay costs and surcharges of £119.
