How many trees in the Tree of Trees at Buckingham Palace?

AS part of the Platinum Jubilee celebrations, a sculpture has been erected featuring native British trees.

But how many trees make up the structure, and how long will it be there for? Here's all you need to know.

How many trees are in the Tree of Trees?

The Tree of Trees sculpture is the creation of British designer Thomas Heatherwick.

He also designed the copper petalled Cauldron which featured at the London 2012 Olympics.

The 70ft tall design is made up of 350 trees that are native to Britain and features repurposed steel "branches".

It celebrates Her Majesty's Green Canopy initiative which saw over a million trees planted.

After the milestone was reached in March 2022, the Queen said in a statement: “I am deeply touched that so many community groups, schools, families and individuals have made their own unique contributions to the Green Canopy initiative.

“I hope your Jubilee trees flourish and grow for many years to come, for future generations to enjoy.”

The sculpture's trees will be held in pots made of aluminium which bear the Queen's cypher.

Heatherwick said the Queen is a fan of the creation and "approved the plans".

Where is the Tree of Trees?

The Tree of Trees is situated just outside Buckingham Palace gates for the Platinum Jubilee celebrations.

It will be illuminated by a senior royal on Thursday, June 2, 2022.

2,800 beacons will be lit worldwide in tribute to the 96-year-old.

The Tree of Trees will be the centrepiece of the festivities to mark the Queen's historic reign, in addition to the traditional Trooping the Colour parade, a star-studded Buckingham Palace concert, and various other events across the long weekend.

Pub opening hours will also be temporarily extended to mark the milestone.

How long will the Tree of Trees be at Buckingham Palace?

If you're keen to get a look at it in person, you don't have long, as it's expected to be taken down after its starring role in the festivities.

When the celebrations have finished, the structure will be dismantled and the trees will be given to individuals and community groups.

In May 2022, Heatherwick said: “We need re-reminding how much trees humanise the world around us and they can’t be taken for granted.

“The tree twists and spirals symbolically spraying an array of 350 baby trees towards their final homes across the country – a symbol of the much bigger initiative of planting.”
