How Rooneys' estimated £134MILLION fortune dwarfs the Vardys' £15m

The Rooneys vs The Vardys: How Wayne and wife Coleen’s estimated £134MILLION fortune (including the £20m ‘Morrisons mansion’) dwarfs the Vardys’ £15m – as Rebekah faces forking out around £4m to her fellow WAG

With the Wagatha Christie libel drama ending in Coleen Rooney’s favour, it now falls to Rebekah Vardy and her footballer husband Jamie to foot the enormous bill.

The 40-year-old has already been ordered to pay £1.5million of her rival’s legal fees, with £800,000 transferred by November 15. But she’ll also have to pay her own eye-watering fees – which have been put at £2,017,860 – plus approximately £200,000 of additional trial costs which could bring the final total to around £3.7m.

A defiant Rebekah taunted her rival Coleen last night with a series of Instagram posts saying she should donate the money she owes her to charity.

And she could certainly afford to do so given the estimated £134m fortune she had amassed with her husband Wayne, which dwarfs the Vardys’ own net worth – put at roughly £15m.

Here is how the WAG rivals weigh up in the financial stakes…

Jamie earns an estimated £8.32m a year at Leicester but almost half of that is likely to go in tax and national insurance. Rebekah has her own showbiz and media career

THE VARDYS

Personal earnings

Premier League striker Jamie signed a new two year deal with Leicester City in August and is believed to be earning around £160,000 a week.

That works out at £8.32m a year but almost half of that is likely to go in tax and national insurance, leaving an estimated take home pay of £4.386 million, according to MoneySaving Expert’s income tax calculator.

In addition to his Leicester pay, Jamie has also netted substantial sums of money thanks to sponsorship deals with Nike and Beats by Dre.

Rebekah has developed her own career on the TV and showbiz circuit, and in 2017 appeared on I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! for an expected £100,000, the Mirror reported.

She has also appeared as a panelist Loose Women and, in 2021, competed in Dancing on Ice, reaching the semi-finals with her dance partner Andy Buchanan.

Her earnings have been paid into several companies including V9 Media Limited, which had retained earnings of £856,000 in June last year. This would pay for the initial downpayment of £800,000 to Coleen she was told to settle immediately.

However, Rebekah and Jamie’s two other companies have combined losses of nearly £175,000.

V9 Academy Limited was £125,912 in the red and BKYV Media Limited was down by £48,579 in the year up to the end of June last year.

Property empire

£2.5m Lincolnshire family home

Rebekah and Jamie live with their family, including three children they share together and a son and a daughter, Taylor and Megan, from previous relationships.

The striker bought the property in 2016 after he and Rebekah previously lived in a £1.25million eight-bedroom house in Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire.

In 2019, the Vardys received planning permission for an outdoor ‘party’ space to the rear of the property including a dining area, bar and cinema.

The entertainment area at the property, which is located in a quiet village with around 80 residents, includes an outdoor kitchen, barbecue, water feature and terracotta chimney pizza oven – complete with decking and seating.

It will sit beside a two-storey extension to the property which includes a garden room, two bedrooms and a cinema. The mansion boasts five reception rooms, an indoor pool, sauna, tennis court and gym.

Vardy enjoys 15,000 sq ft of space at his home, which also has a three-bedroom annexe. Planning papers sent to the council say: ‘The proposal comprises the erection of a two-storey extension to the rear of the host dwelling.

‘The ridge height of the extension would be approximately 7.8m, with an eaves height of approximately 5m. The proposal also comprises (of) an external covered dining area, along with a retaining wall and landscaping.’

£2million Portuguese villa

Following Rebekah’s legal loss, friends have suggested she may be forced to sell the family’s beloved Portuguese luxury villa on the exclusive golf resort of Quinta do Lago, which they call their ‘sanctuary’.

The property, which has three pools, a gym, steam room and six bedrooms, is thought to be worth in the region of £2million and is available for rent for up to £30,000 per week.

Earlier this year the couple had a scare when the luxury villa looked like it could be damaged by forest fires.

A source close to the family told the Sun: ‘It’s been horrifying. Their neighbours have all been evacuated and one by one residents are being told to leave their homes.

‘Becky can see smoke everywhere and she’s terrified about the kids breathing it in. The water is also down so she’s relying on bottled water which, obviously, there is only a finite amount of at home.

‘Jamie and their friends and family back home have all been really worried. Things are developing by the hour but she’s praying the fire brigades, who have been brilliant, can get things back under control.’

THE ROONEYS

Personal earnings

During his time at Premier League side Manchester United, Wayne was among the world’s top 10 highest earning footballers for more than a decade, commanding a £300,000-a-week salary.

He also netted millions in endorsements and advertising campaigns from the likes of Nike, Nokia, Coca-Cola, and Ford.

After a brief spell at his childhood team, Everton, and two years in America with MLS side DC United he returned to England to manage Derby County. He earned a reported £90,000 in his first management role, although he agreed to defer part of his pay to help the club deal with a cash crisis.

Months ago he returned to America to take over as manager of DC United, with reports putting his salary at $1million (£869,000 a year).

Coleen has enjoyed her own flourishing career independent of her husband, with her estimated individual net worth estimated at £14million.

The WAG has built her own wealth through exercise DVDs and books, as well as a raft of sponsorship and media deals.

Coleen launched a jewellery range with Argos in 2008 in a £500,000 deal and also has her own perfume line. In 2010, she signed a £2m clothing deal with retail company Littlewoods which lasted until 2017.

She’s appeared regularly on TV, including in 2008 with her own show titled Coleen’s Real Women. Coleen presented two episodes of X Factor and has appeared on This Morning.

The 36-year-old released her autobiography, Welcome to My World, in 2007, before another book, Coleen’s Real Style, came out a year later.

She’s also written a four-book series called Coleen Style Queen which focuses on a fictional character inspired by Coleen’s childhood.

Earlier this year, she signed a multimillion pound deal with Disney+ for the rights to a tell-all Wagatha Christie documentary.

Property empire

Cheshire – £20m ‘Morrisons Mansion’ and £3.7m former home

The couple reportedly pocketed £3.7m from the sale of their former five-bedroom home in Prestbury, Cheshire.

The couple, both 36, bought the plot of land for £1.5million in 2005, before custom building the family home.

Their new £20m pad is situated deep in the Cheshire countryside and boasts a snooker room, a home cinema, indoor swimming pool, an underground spa, wine cellar, a stable area with space for 14 horses, and, a football pitch for their four sons.

The house, which sits in its own secluded spot in 40 acres of countryside, is on the flightpath to Manchester Airport with planes flying directly over it.

Situated behind a lake, a bridge leads to the manor – uncharitably referred to as the ‘Morrisons mansion’ due to its similarity to the supermarket chain.

A number of people on social media have compared the new Rooney home’s design to a supermarket supermarket, such as this Morrisons in Sunderland

The family were initially set to move into the mansion back in 2020, but were set back due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

But Coleen and Wayne ran into some issues when renovating the property, running into issues from birds, so they installed an airport-style automatic ‘bird-scarer’ to prevent grass seeds from being eaten.

Blasts from the gas-powered scarer every 20 minutes annoyed the well-heeled neighbours in the Cheshire countryside, who became fed up with the drawn-out construction work.

Another bugbear for local residents was the state-of-the art security precautions around the property.

Several objected to the erection of a 9ft tall security fence ringing the estate, branding it an eyesore which would ‘urbanise’ the rural area. The planners sided with the Rooneys.

Construction on the property was delayed as a consequence of the coronavirus pandemic and cost an estimated £20million to complete

The ground floor has a huge indoor swimming pool surrounded by a glass pavilion and a hot tub, plunge pool and steam room.

There is also a large garage for the former Manchester United star’s fleet of sports cars, as well as a stable block. In order to avoid the social faux pas of using the couple’s own downstairs loo, there is a ‘guest toilet’ too and even separate lifts – one for the family, the other for visitors.

Upstairs has six bedrooms, all with en-suites, with the master bedroom also boasting a dressing room. The property has two floors as well as a subterranean basement, which is home to the steam room, plunge pool, hot tub, gym, cinema room with ten seats, wine cellar and snooker room with bar.

The plush garage has room for six cars and the stables have room for 14 horses plus a hay store and a tack room.

£5m Barbados holiday home

Wayne and Coleen loved holiday hotspot Barbados so much they eventually splashed out £5million a rental property there in 2010.

Located in the exclusive Royal Westmoreland estate on the Caribbean island, the resort has become so popular with northern celebrities that its Jasmine Ridge development is now unofficially known as the ‘Northern Quarter’.

Once a sugar plantation, it extends to 750 acres and has 225 privately owned villas and cottages, a clubhouse, restaurant, spa, private beach and a golf course.

Guests receive a daily complimentary round of golf and use of a buggy on the estate.

As of 2017, the villa rents for £25,410 per week at high season – such as Christmastime – while it drops to £10,164 per week during low season.

Royal Westmoreland owner John Morphet said in 2017: ‘We have a very wide range of people here. We do have celebrities but once we come in through the gate we are all on the same level.

‘The owners are not starstruck, they leave each other alone. People don’t bother them, they just mix in.’

£320,000 Florida apartment

With Wayne established as one of the best players of his generation, the couple forked out an estimated £320,000 on a waterfront apartment at Harbor Pointe in Port Charlotte, Florida in 2007 – only for property prices to collapse during the recession.

The holiday home featured a master suite, a study its very own fitness centre as well as a heated pool, located within the grounds of the resort.

As reported by MailOnline at the time, they bought the condo through realtors Your Place Abroad – who also facilitated homes for Michael Owen and former cricketer Andrew Flintoff.

However a downturn in the global economy resulted in the collapse property prices, with neighbouring homes losing as much as £150,000 in value as a result.
