The TV star's mum was spotted leaving his home earlier today as it was announced the 42-year-old Saturday Night Takeaway presenter will return to rehab and step down from current TV commitments.
Ant's mum was in the car when it crashed, and remained with him until the very point he was taken away in a police car.
An eyewitness to the crash spoke of a mother trying to be there for her son.
Amy Cassie, 23, said: “Ant seemed furious after crashing the car and was shouting at his mum who was also in the car. She was trying to get him to calm down."
Christine appears to have spent much of today with her son, and was pictured leaving her troubled son's London home in a taxi hours after he returned home at 2.40am having been held in police custody for ten hours.
However, it's not the first time Christine, who is originally from Fenham in Newcastle, has supported Ant through a rough patch.
His dad Raymond walked out on the family when he was just ten, she raised him and younger sister Sarah on a tough Geordie council estate alone.
More recently, in August last year, she stood by him as it was revealed exclusively by The Sun's Bizarre column that he had entered rehab following a two-year addiction to super-strong painkillers.
After a two-month stint in rehab Ant headed straight to visit his mum in Newcastle before returning to London to attempt to save his marriage with Lisa Armstrong.
Of his desire to be with his mum and other family members, a source said at the time: "With his family all around him to support him and having visited his mum he is finally getting everything back together and can start working at making things up to Lisa."
Shortly afterwards his mum moved into his £2million mansion in London's Chiswick – having never moved back into their £6million home – to help him adjust to normal life again.
The TV host told The Sun's Bizarre column that he was enjoying spending time with him, and revealed she was helping him on the road to recovery.
He said: “She’s happy to have me back. People do notice the difference in you when you’re down and depressed.
“She noticed it. She said she’s really happy to have her old son back, which is nice to hear.”
Christine remained there for her son in the months that followed as his marriage to his wife of eleven years deteriorated
In December, it was to her Newcastle home that Ant headed – minus wife Lisa – for Christmas after returning from Australia where he had been away presenting I'm A Celebrity.
A source told The Sun Online: "He felt it was best he spent Christmas up North with his mum and gave them both some space to think ahead of the New Year."
Then, just says after he revealed to The Sun's Bizarre column in January he was divorcing Lisa, Ant was pictured in stitches while out on a dog walk with his mum.
