Bode Miller’s wife was inside their neighbors’ home talking to people when she suddenly realized their young daughter wasn’t with her — and rushed outside, spotted the child in the pool and pulled her out, a fire official said Tuesday.
“They were at a neighbor’s house, talking to the neighbors inside, and somehow the little girl made her way to the backyard pool,” Orange County Fire Authority Captain Steve Concialdi told People magazine.
It wasn’t immediately clear whether Miller was there at the time.
The little girl, 19-month-old Emeline Miller, “was only missing for just a short amount of time, and Mom turned and was looking for her and didn’t see her right next to her,” the official said, referring to Miller’s wife, Morgan Beck.
“Mom went straight to the backyard to where the pool was. The child was in the pool. The mom pulled out the little girl, and they started CPR immediately,” he said.
The tot later died at the hospital.
