Kate Middleton’s uncle, Gary Goldsmith, appeared in court in London on Tuesday (14 November 2017) and admitted punching his wife in the face and knocking her to the ground after a drunken argument on the way home from a charity event.
The multimillionaire attacked Julie-Ann Goldsmith outside their home in Wimpole Street, central London, at around 1.20am on October 13 this year and was arrested that day.
Westminster Magistrates’ Court heard that Goldsmith – who is the younger brother of Kate’s mother Carole Middleton – left Julie-Ann Goldsmith unconscious outside of their London home.

Goldsmith pleaded guilty to one count of assault by beating, with prosecutor Kate Shilton describing to the court how Mrs Goldsmith fell down after her husband threw what was described by their taxi driver Daniel Shepherd as a “left hook”.
According to The Mirror, she said: “The argument took place in the back of a taxi.
“They both got out of the taxi and he [Mr Shepherd] describes Mrs Goldsmith slapping her husband to the face.
“He then describes how Mr Goldsmith punches her hard in the face using a left hook. “Mrs Goldsmith has then fallen backwards. He says ‘She appears to be unconscious, she isn’t moving’.”

Mrs Goldsmith was unconcious for with her eyes closed for around 15 seconds, staggering to her feet, the court heard.
Ms Shilton said: “She [Mrs Goldsmith] then becomes upset, starts crying and uses some railings to assist her.”
Mrs Goldsmith asked the Mr Shepherd to call the police, while the court heart that Goldsmith was “aggressive” to the taxi driver.

Goldsmith was also described as “panicked and walking in and out of the house, trying to get her to go back in the house”.
Mrs Goldsmith was taken by ambulance to hospital to be treated for her injuries and has since been discharged.
The 52-year-old businessman was said to be “apologetic” for his actions.

However Chief Magistrate Emma Arbuthnot admitted that she needed to consider how to protect Mrs Goldsmith from her husband with a fitting sentence.
Summarising, she said: “I am excluding custody and looking at a community order.
“But I am really looking at how to protect this lady from this man.”

Describing the events of October 13 to The Sun newspaper, Shepherd previously said: “He was screaming and swearing at her and she slapped him round the face and his glasses fell off. It kicked off as they tried to unlock door. He then turned and hit her in the face with a left hook. She fell and cracked her head on the pavement.
“I started ringing 999 and he began taking pictures of my cab — saying, ‘I’m going to report you.”
Goldsmith with be sentenced on November 21.
