Lisa Armstrong has broken her silence on Ant McPartlin’s drink-driving shame for the first time since he pleaded guilty on Monday.
The makeup artist, who split from Ant in January 2018 after 11 years of marriage, is yet to make a public statement.
But she let her feelings be known by interacting with supportive messages from fans on social media, after Ant’s legal team pinned the blame for his boozed-up crash on their marriage breakdown.
Lisa, who works behind the scenes on shows like Britain’s Got Talent and Strictly Come Dancing, liked two tweets from followers wishing her good thoughts while Ant was in the dock.
One told her: "Thinking of you today", adding a love heart emoji.
And the other tweeted Lisa to say: "Sending you lots of love & hugs. Thinking that you could probably do with them today. #Staystrong xxxx."
Lisa found herself getting part of the blame for Ant’s car smash, which left the drivers and passengers in the two vehicles he crashed into fearing they would die.
Ant’s barrister told the court that the TV star was experiencing "emotional issues" stemming from the disintegration of his marriage, which caused him to "briefly relapse" before he got behind the wheel of his car on March 18.
It’s not clear whether Ant was still drunk from the night before – he and Dec had just finished filming for Saturday Night Takeaway and were known for their boozy wind-down routines after the show – or if he’d secretly downed alcohol on the morning of the crash, which happened around 3.50pm.
His mum Christine Woodhall, who has been acting as his unofficial ‘sober coach’ since he moved out of his marital home late last year, had no idea Ant was drunk, his barrister confirmed.
She’d come under fire on social media for ‘letting’ her son drive after downing booze.
But barrister Liam Walker told the court that the cause of the incident was "a brief relapse unbeknownst to his passenger".
Ant’s rep has now confirmed to Mirror Online that the presenter has gone back into rehab for further treatment for his addiction.
In a statement Ant gave to police the day before he was charged with drink-driving, he accepted that he had got behind the wheel while drunk.
"I am very sorry I did this. I’m ashamed and mortified that this happened and I accept full culpability for this – and wish to apologise to all concerned," the remorseful star said.
"I am addressing what I now recognise as problems with alcohol and emotional issues. I recognise that I need to deal with these. As a consequence I have sought specialist help to ensure that nothing of this nature happens again."
