‘I’m not saying you don’t owe the country something. Of course you owe your country a lot for living there all those years. But I think it can be a bit over the top,’ he had added.

After his passing, Wilnelia, who won Miss World 1975, inherited £11.5million of his fortune – including his family home in Surrey and one in her native Puerto Rico.

Bruce is thought to have left everything to his wife after funeral and legal expenses to avoid inheritable tax, because had he left his fortune to anyone else, excluding charity, a 40 per cent tax would’ve been due on everything over £325,000.

The former actress and model was free to give away £650,000 without paying extra in tax.

Probate records showed that Bruce, who earned £650,000 per series for co-hosting Strictly, also left £100,000 in a trust for his nine grandchildren, who will be able to split the cash when they turn 21.

It was reported last year that the rest of his £40,000 fortune was split between the two executors of his estate.

A spokesman for his estate previously said: ‘All I would say is that I think 99.9 per cent of married people would do this.’

Wilnelia spoke candidly about her husband’s death a year on in a candid interview with The Mail On Sunday last month, where she revealed she still talks to him everyday.

She said: ‘Sometimes it feels like yesterday. I can’t believe it’s been a year. I was in London the other day and rushing, thinking I had to get home. But then I realised, what’s the point?

‘I try to be strong for the family, but if I told you it’s been easy I’d be lying. I miss Bruce every single day. He was my mentor in a way.

‘He had so much knowledge about everything and was such an easy person to talk to. I could speak to him about absolutely everything.

‘I talk to him all the time anyway, but I miss sharing all the good news in the world, and the bad.’
