Beyoncé is among the many celebrities congratulating tennis icon Serena Williams on the birth of her baby girl.
Serena gave birth to her child yesterday (September 1) after being admitted to hospital on Wednesday, and her friend was among the first to send their warm wishes.
Uploading a picture of the 23-time Grand Slam winner holding her pregnant belly to Instagram, Beyoncé – who recently gave birth to twins – wrote “Congratulations Serena!”.
Serena first announced her pregnancy back in April by uploading a picture captioned “20 weeks” on Snapchat. Shortly before that she won the Australian Open while 8 weeks pregnant. Girl Boss.
The baby is her first with fiancée, Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian.
Serena and Beyoncé have been close friends for a while, as the tennis star even appeared in the music video for Lemonade song ‘Sorry’ last year.
Explaining her iconic appearance in the video, Serena said at the time, “I have known the director since I was like nine years old.
“I know Beyoncé pretty well, so they were like, ‘We would love for you to be in this particular song. It’s about strength and it’s about courage and that’s what we see you as.'”
She added: “She told me that she just wants me to dance, like just be really free and just dance like nobody’s looking and go all out. So that wasn’t easy in the beginning, but then it got easier.”
Other stars to send their congrats to the tennis star included sister Venus, who heard the news as she was going on to court at the US Open.
“Obviously I’m super-excited,” she said. “Words can’t describe it.”
Fellow tennis player Rafael Nadal tweeted: “Congrats Serena!!! So much joy for you!!!”
