Britney Spears’ iconic outfit from the 2001 MTV Video Music Awards – you know, the one with the snake – is going up for auction.
The star famously performed ‘I’m A Slave 4 U’ at the ceremony while adorned in the bikini, hot pants and python, and now you have a chance to own it yourself.
A seller on eBay is auctioning off the outfit (snake not included) along with six more of Britney’s most famous outfits, including her look from the ‘Overprotected’ video, as well as the jersey she wore at the 2001 Super Bowl Halftime Show.
“I’ve collected theses outfits since 2003 when Britney auctioned them off,” the owner writes on the eBay page, adding that she thinks they’re “arguably the most iconic costumes in music history”.
And just in case you think there’s a chance you’re being swindled, the user also claims that they all have “Authenticity Certificates” to prove they are the real deal. Here’s a look at what you’d be buying:
The bids for all seven outfits – which are being sold as a set – currently stand at a jaw-dropping $99,995, but the reserve hasn’t been met yet. If you have enough cash, hurry up and bid! The auction will be closing on Friday (May 12).
Meanwhile, this week we very excitingly learned that a Britney musical could be in the works as the singer may soon be turning her back-catalogue of certified bangers into a theatre production. And, as it happens, this is another Britney-related piece of news that we shouldn’t worry about the “authenticity” of.
“We’re telling a true story about real people, so the authenticity is really important to me,” theatre veteran Jerry Mitchell said. “It would not be autobiographical.”
Let’s just hope it doesn’t go the way of the Britney Ever After unauthorised biopic.
And until then, let’s relive Britney’s classic 2001 VMA performance below:
