ITV apologises for using Ferne McCann's daughter's picture for cot death story

ITV has apologised after using a picture of Ferne McCann’s daughter Sunday in an ITV News segment about cot death.

During a lunchtime news programme on ITV last month, a picture of Sunday that Ferne posted on Instagram in November was used to illustrate the results of a cot death study.

The image itself was cropped and didn’t show the baby’s head or face and immediate action was taken as soon as ITV was made aware of the situation.

The broadcaster has now apologised for the use of the image, with a spokesperson for ITV telling Digital Spy: “ITV News took swift action as soon as we were notified by Ferne’s team of the error. We’re sorry if any upset was caused to Ferne and her family.”

Wellcome to the world my darling. Didn’t expect to see you a week early 🙂. I’m so in love & bursting with pride. It’s a girl 👶🏼💗💗💗

ITV also took steps to immediately remove the picture from any further news programmes and ensure it wasn’t used again after Ferne’s representatives contacted the channel.

Digital Spy has reached out to Ferne’s representatives for comment.

Ferne welcomed her first child last November after announcing she was pregnant and confirming that she’d split from the baby’s father, Arthur Collins, earlier in the year ahead of an emotional appearance on This Morning.

During her appearance on the show, Ferne described how being pregnant gave her “strength and hope”.

“It has been such a stressful, surreal situation to be in. But I’m actually feeling good and positive,” Ferne said. “Because I’m pregnant, I think that has given me strength and hope to get through this.

“I surrounded myself with family and friends and I’ve got such a strong support group with my mum and my friends – everyone has been so amazing.”

Earlier this year, Ferne shut down reports she’d rekindled her romance with ex Arthur, who was sentenced to 20 years in prison at the end of last year after being found guilty of carrying out an acid attack that left several people injured.

“For the record (again) I am not in a relationship with Arthur. I do not know how much clearer I could be about that!!” she tweeted.

“Arthur is Sunday’s father. I have had to communicate with him and his family with respect to Sunday (mainly through lawyers).”
