Niall Horan knows exactly what he’ll do when the One Direction reunion comes calling.
He released his second solo single, ‘Slow Hands’, earlier this month and is due to release his album this autumn – so long as his bandmates don’t come calling before then.
“I told my managers from the start: When One Direction comes knocking, fook what I’m doing. I don’t give a shit if I sold out arenas or won Grammys. I wouldn’t be doing this if it wasn’t for that,” Niall told Billboard.
He confirmed that while he still chats regularly with the rest of One Direction, they “haven’t even had a conversation about how long we think the break will be”.
And although they don’t yet know when they’ll get back together, Niall is confident that a reunion WILL happen and it’ll involve Simon Cowell.
“We’ll always have mutual respect. When we get back to the band, he’ll be at the forefront again,” he explained. “When it will be, I don’t know. I prefer not to do it after I’m 40. I’d prefer the next few years.”
For now, Niall is just keeping busy being his own worst critic.
“I have loads of songs, but now that I’ve heard what we’ve done, I realise the rest are shite. Nothing I do will be as big as One Direction, but I have to try at least to get somewhere near it,” he said.
Earlier this month, Niall put the One Direction hiatus down to their gruelling schedule. “It was a long time to keep going at that intensity and that pressure, touring that much and bringing out albums at that pace,” he recalled.
“We felt like we just wanted to either chill or do our own thing. When we called it, it was kind of a release in a way so you could go and see family, see friends, go backpacking.”
Niall is set to perform at this year’s Capital FM Summertime Ball in the UK.
