“I guess this is me coming out as pansexual,” the rock star says.
Panic! At the Disco frontman Brendon Urie is the latest celebrity to publicly identify as pansexual.
Although he’s married to a woman and is "very much in love with her," the rock star told Paper Magazine in an interview published Friday that he believes he could be qualified as pansexual.
"I’m not opposed to a man because to me, I like a person. Yeah I guess you could qualify me as pansexual because I really don’t care," he said. "If a person is great, then a person is great. I just like good people, if your heart’s in the right place. I’m definitely attracted to men. It’s just people that I am attracted to.
When the reporter asked directly if he’s pansexual, the singer added, "I guess so, I guess this is me coming out as pansexual."
Urie joins Miley Cyrus and Janelle Monae in the famous pansexuals category.
Pansexuality differs from bisexuality in that it doesn’t recognize gender as a factor in attraction.
Urie also touched on the #MeToo movement, which he thinks is still in the process of impacting the music industry.
"I’m sure there is still time where stuff will come out. I don’t think it’s over by any means," he said. "The thing that sucks that I think, is that a lot of guys don’t speak up. They don’t want to snitch and I’m like, ‘Motherf–ker, snitch!’ Those guys aren’t your friends, they’re not good people. They are doing terrible things, tell people about it. Don’t protect your friend."
"When all this stuff started coming out in the film industry more and more, I was like, ‘Of course. Look at Harvey Weinstein, he looks like a creep,’" Urie added. "That guy is so gross. Whose ass wants to be grabbed? I’m sure it’s going to keep coming out, I hope it does."
