Smith's Toronto Nationals will host Warner's Winnipeg Hawks in the third round of the competition on July 2, following the release of the tournament schedule.

Former Australian captain Smith's team gets the tournament underway on June 28 against a Vancouver side that boasts West Indies champions Chris Gayle and Andrew Russell.

It will mark Smith's first competitive match since the infamous Cape Town-Test against South Africa in March.

The 29-year-old and his ex-deputy Warner are three months into one-year bans imposed by Cricket Australia for their roles, alongside Cameron Bancroft, in the ball-tampering row.

Smith and Warner will play at least seven games before the final takes place on July 15.

But first controversial opener Warner will commentate on Australia's ODI series in England, joining the Nine Network team in Sydney for the second game in Cardiff on Saturday.

Australian spinner Ashton Agar has backed Warner's move into the commentary box, despite the appointment by the television channel attracting some controversy.

"He would have been mentally really hurt by that, his family would have been hurt, everyone was hurt," Agar said.

"So for him to be back around the game he loves is only good."
