George Groves makes statement about his boxing future after shoulder injury

George Groves will apply to have his World Boxing Super Series final delayed until July.

The super-middleweight world champion will have an operation on his shoulder today after dislocating it during his win over Chris Eubank Jr last weekend.

He is due to face Callum Smith in the final on June 2 but will apply to the WBSS for a month’s extension.

Groves tweeted: "Morning boxing fans. This morning I go in for a minor operation on my injured shoulder.

"The good news is I’ll be fit to fight in the final in July. We will be applying to the WBSuperSeries for a one month extension and are hopeful of securing this."

Groves dominated Eubank Jr throughout their semi-final clash in Manchester, winning by unanimous decision.

The Londoner suffered his injury in the final round but battled on to hear the final bell.

He was in Germany on Saturday to watch Smith outpoint late-replacement opponent Nieky Holzen to take his record to 24-0.

The pair squared off to set the scene for their final which is expected to be held in London.
