ASTON VILLA target Nick Powell will sign a new deal at Wigan and stay on — if their long-running takeover goes through.
The forward, 23, is wanted by Villa chief Steve Bruce, who has had one inquiry rebuffed so far.
Former Manchester United star Powell has told pals he would be willing to extend his deal with the Latics.
But boss Paul Cook is in a jam until the Far East syndicate are given the nod from the Football League to buy the club from Dave Whelan.
Powell featured for Wigan as they came within seconds of dumping Premier League side Bournemouth out of the FA Cup third round.
The Cherries survived a giant-killing in the FA Cup third round on Saturday by equalising in added time at home to League One leaders Wigan.
Cup winners in 2013, the year they were relegated from the top flight, Wigan led 2-0 at half-time.
Northern Ireland striker Will Grigg put them ahead in only the fourth minute and just before the half-hour mark a free kick by Powell was deflected in by Bournemouth's American Emerson Hyndman.
The home side, who have only just moved out of the Premier League relegation places, had risked making eight changes.
They made two more with substitutions for the second half and got a goal back through Frenchman Lys Mousset.
Ryan Fraser's free kick then came back off a post, but defender Steve Cook earned a replay in the 92nd minute.
