He even fell out with international team-mates and Los Blancos stars, Sergio Ramos and Alvaro Arbeloa due to his constant put-downs.

Whenever they can, Real Madrid fans like to get their own back — and they weren’t about to let this opportunity pass.

While speculation was mounting prior to Neymar’s acrimonious departure to Paris Saint-Germain, Pique attempted to reassure concerned Barcelona supporters by tweeting a picture of himself alongside the Brazilian, with the caption: “He stays.”

Of course, he didn’t — and the former Manchester United defender later bizarrely revealed he already knew his ex-team-mate was leaving when he posted the image on social media.

As he and his current team-mates arrived at the Bernabeu ahead of their Spanish Super Cup second leg, Real Madrid fans chanted “He stays” at Pique in a refreshingly light-hearted — yet still funny — jest.
