The 100 is recasting Clarke’s ‘daughter’ Madi for season five.
Madi was introduced in the season four finale played by Imogen Tear, but now Shadowhunters star Lola Flanery has taken over the recurring role of the young nightblood found by Clarke.
“The relationship is hugely important for Clarke. She’s been with her for five years. They are, for all intents and purposes, bonded the way a mother and daughter would be,” executive producer Jason Rothenberg told TVLine.
“So Clarke loves her, and her decision-making process has changed, just as it does for anyone who has a child… We’ll tell the story of how they came together in season five, and how they’ve been surviving as the only two people on the planet.”
The 100‘s fifth season will act as a sort of reboot for the series after the season four finale featured a six-year time jump when Clarke sacrificed herself to ensure that her friends made it back to space.
Only Clarke survived thanks to her nightblood, with season four ending on a cliffhanger as an unknown spaceship descended on to Earth.
“I think, in some really cool ways, it’s a rebooting of the entire story. The 100 were prisoners when they came to the ground, and they thought they were alone, but they weren’t,” Rothenberg previously said.
“Now Clarke is the Grounder, and these prisoners are the 100. We screw with people’s perspectives.”
The 100 returns to ABC in the US and E4 in the UK next year.
