The Baywatch star is set to play Ted Bundy, notorious serial killer, kidnapper, rapist and necrophile, in the period drama Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile.
The film will be told from the perspective of Bundy’s longtime girlfriend, Elizabeth Kloepfer, who initially refused to believe the murderous allegations about her lover.
However, she eventually later reported him to the police and he was executed in Florida, in 1989, after confessing to the sexual assault and murder of more than 30 women committed in seven states between 1974 and 1978.

It’s a significant role for Efron who has spent the last few years getting his kit off in raucous comedies.
In 2016 alone he appeared in the critically-panned Dirty Grandpa and Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates, and returned to the average sequel, Neighbours 2: Sorority Rising, with Seth Rogen.
Soon he will be seen in the Baywatch remake opposite Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, as disgraced ex-Olympic athlete, Matt Brody, who joins Mitch Buchanan’s lifeguard squad.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, the Ted Bundy film will be directed by Oscar-nominated filmmaker Joe Berlinger, whose credits include the Paradise Lost documentaries, about the West Memphis Three, and Some Kind of Monster, about heavy metal band Metallica.
Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile will begin production in October.
