Charlotte Hawkins leapt to the defence of Brendan Cole after reports he was axed for dancing with Camilla Parker Bowles [ITV]
Charlotte Hawkins leapt to the defence of her Strictly Come Dancing partner Brendan Cole following reports he was dropped from the show for dancing with Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall.
The TV presenter spoke out on Good Morning Britain where showbiz presenter Richard Arnold revealed the controversy surrounding Brendan’s exit from the BBC dance show.
Brendan Cole was recently axed from Strictly Come Dancing, after the BBC decided not to renew his contract after 15 years.
And the professional dancer recently denied claims the reason behind the decision was after he broke protocol when it comes to the Royal family.

Speaking up for the professional dancer, whom she competed with in last year’s show, Charlotte said: “He stuck up for me on my behalf, which I was very grateful for and in this instance, he saw her, no one had asked her to danced he did the gentlemanly thing and asked her.”
Charlotte then went onto back up Brendan’s claims that show bosses did not brief him about dancing with the royal during the dance.
She continued: “He was a bit worried about breaking royal protocol, which obviously she was thrilled to have a dance, but they said nothing to him about whether he should be dancing or not.”
The drama comes after the Christmas special of the BBC show, where Brendan, judge Craig Revel Horwood and a number of professionals attended a tea dance at Buckingham Palace for charity.

Brendan asked Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall to dance and they were pictured together as they happily performed some steps together.
But The Sun claims the move left bosses furious as it broke protocol.
“It was the last straw, they saw he couldn’t be controlled,” a source told The Sun.
“The event had been very carefully orchestrated, largely due to Craig’s friendship with Camilla – and everyone, including Brendan, had been given an extremely clear briefing.

“It was a tea dance in aid of an osteoporosis charity encouraging older people to stay active and each of the professionals was to pair up with the guests while Craig danced with Camilla.
However, Brendan’s spokesperson denied the claims to OK! Online, saying: “I can confirm that these assertions are absolutely, categorically untrue. There was no such brief from BBC.”
