Coronation Street fans spot Eastenders legend making a surprise appearance in the soap as Jude's fake work colleague

Richard Elis, who played Huw Edwards on the BBC soap for three years, appeared on the Cobbles playing Jude’s fake work colleague.

As part of the ongoing plot about Jude, played by Paddy Wallace, pretending to be marine biologist, his mum Mary (Patti Clare) enlisted one of her friends from drama club to play his colleague.

Jude has been lying to his wife Angie about his job when he really works in the gift shop at the aquarium.

And when Angie arranges a dinner for his colleagues, Mary gets some of her mates to help out – one of whom was played by Richard Elis.

Unfortunately the ruse doesn’t go quite according to plan and Angie finds out he has been lying about his job.

Those watching at home were more interested in the fact Huw from EastEnders was on screen and took to Twitter to comment on it.

One person wrote: “Was doing my nut in wondering how I recognised this Nigel/Fake Seth in #corrie tonight – bit of research and it turns out he played Huw in #Eastenders back in the day!! I'm in my 20's but still remember Huw and Lenny! Old school. 😂😂😂😂.”

While another commented: “Crikey Nigel is Huw from eastenders years ago lennys best friend #Corrie #eastenders.”

And someone else wrote: “Is that Huw from 1990s #EastEnders in the Rovers? #corrie.”

Richard appeared in EastEnders from 1996-1999. He was initially cast for for three episodes, but ended up staying for three years as he proved so popular.

Since then he has had roles in The Bill and Casualty, as well as in various adverts.
