Not content with one, or even two, live-action takes, The Little Mermaid is now also getting the live TV musical treatment, which is seemingly all the rage at the moment.
Grease successfully did it, Dirty Dancing‘s about to do it, so where better to go next than under the sea? (Certainly nowhere original, that’s for sure.)
Yes, according to Deadline, ABC will air The Wonderful World of Disney: The Little Mermaid Live! on October 3 to celebrate the beloved animated Disney classic.
And although we are a little cynical, we’re also pretty thrilled – after all, who doesn’t love the music of The Little Mermaid?

It’s reported that the two-hour TV special will feature live musical performances by a line-up of “celebrity artists” in a live-action/animation hybrid. Which actually is a new take on things.
While we look forward to finding out who takes on the coveted role of Ariel in the production, we won’t be surprised if Lindsay Lohan puts herself up for the role. Again.
The Mean Girls actress recently reminded fans of her and Ariel’s similarities after previously declaring the mermaid her “dream role”. (You and us both, Linds.)
So far, the only big name attached to Disney’s official remake is Hamilton‘s Lin-Manuel Miranda, who is working on a mix of classic songs from the 1989 film and brand new sure-fire hits.
