EastEnders: Max Branning CONFIRMS he set up Jack after brutally beating up Charlie Cotton, as he plots to take Matthew away from his brother

Jack got into an argument with Charlie Cotton recently over the care for Charlie’s son Matthew.

Matthew has been living with Jack following the death of his mother Ronnie Mitchell in January, who was Jack’s wife.

As Charlie recently returned to claim back Matthew, Jack was not prepared to let him go.

But Charlie’s EastEnders return and the fight are all down to Max, who is plotting revenge against his brother and planning to get Matthew away from him.

Max was wrongly charged with the murder of Lucy Beale, and since his return to Walford over Christmas he has set out to get revenge on those who betrayed him.

Things took an even bigger turn tonight, as Jack was questioned for assaulting Charlie.

Jack insisted he was innocent and had barely touched Charlie, but he and viewers were gobsmacked when they saw the result of Charlie’s fight.

Charlie had been taken to hospital, and was left severely battered and bruised with a swollen eye.

Jack insisted this was not down to him as the police revealed they believed he had attacked Charlie, amongst his grief for Ronnie.

As Jack panicked in the police station, with it not looking good for him, viewers finally saw what the police were going on about.

Charlie appeared on screen with his bloodied face, telling someone he had done what they asked.

He said: “Cut to the chase yeah. I’ve done my bit, letting you use me as punchbag, is Jack going down or what?”

The scene then cut to Max who was with Matthew, and he said: “Listen hear Cotton, you’ll get your son back,” before telling him to leave the rest to him.

So Max DID set up Jack and he was the one who attacked Charlie – will he really allow Jack to go down for the crime?

Jack’s children asked Max earlier on if their dad was coming home, and Max appeared pretty sister with his response.

He told them: “Everything is gonna be exactly how it should be, don’t you worry about that.”
