Fascinating Things You Never Knew About the Trump Family

With the 24-hour news cycle and how much coverage they actually get, you make think you know everything there is to know about the Trump family. But there are lots of things regarding the first family that will surprise you including which one of the president’s children released music because they wanted to be a pop star (page 7) and which of his daughters dated a famous celebrity who was 48 years her senior (page 10).

Here are some fascinating facts you probably never knew about the Trumps.

1. Melania Trump is a polyglot

Melania Trump is a polyglot as she knows several languages. Vox noted that in addition to English and her native Slovene, the FLOTUS also speaks Serbo-Croatian, Italian, French, and German.

Her son, Barron, knows a few languages as well. Besides English, she taught him Slovenian and French.

2. Donald Trump once owned a football team

Yes, it’s true, the president actually owned a professional football team before. It may seem odd hearing that given his beef with the NFL, so we’ll explain.

In 1983, he purchased the New Jersey Generals. That team wasn’t part of the National Football League, it was part of the United States Football LeagueThe USFL, though, never took off and shut down after the 1985 season.

3. Barron Trump had an entire floor of Trump Tower to himself

Apparently, the youngest of the Trump children was living the good life in New York City. Before moving to 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, Barron had a whole entire floor to himself at his family’s penthouse in Manhattan.

We’re not exactly sure how much space Melania and Donald’s only son has to himself at the White House, but it likely isn’t as much as he had at Trump Tower.

4. President Trump worried about Donald Trump Jr. being a ‘loser’

It wasn’t Donald Trump but his first wife, Ivana, who suggested to name their oldest son Donald Trump Jr.

In her 2017 memoir titled Raising Trump, Ivana wrote that the real estate mogul was hesitant about naming the child after him for the fear that he might turn out to be a “loser.”

5. Melania posed nude for magazines

Most people are aware that Melania Trump was a model before she married Donald Trump, but not everyone knows that she posed naked for multiple publications.

That seems a bit strange considering that she is the FLOTUS now, and it’s also a little weird that her British GQ spread and other nude pictorials can still be found online today for anyone to see.

6. Donald Trump had his own board game

That’s right Donald Trump had his very own board game, which he released twice. “Trump: The Game” came out in 1989 and was marketed as being similar to Monopoly. However, it was discontinued by manufacturers.

Then in 2004, following the success of The Apprentice, another version of the game was released. That version was pulled as well but used copies of the game still remain in existence and are being sold online today.

7. Tiffany Trump released a pop single

The Trump daughter who most people know least about actually wanted to become a pop star and even recorded a single in 2011 called “Like a Bird” featuring Sprite & Logic.

Unfortunately, Tiffany wasn’t able to break into the music business, but the song will forever live on YouTube. You can listen to it here.

8. Donald Trump has a star on the Walk of Fame

In 2007, Donald Trump got a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame after The Apprentice was on for three years. Since he began his presidency, the star has become a target for vandals.

In one instance, it was smashed with a hammer and in another, it was covered with stickers.

9. He won an award for acting too

Before he was elected POTUS, Donald Trump wanted to join other Hollywood heavyweights by winning an Emmy award. While he was nominated for his popular reality competition series, The Apprentice, he never took home the shiny statue. What he did win though was a much-less coveted award for acting.

In 1991, he won a Razzie for Worst Supporting Actor in a movie in which he played himself titled Ghosts Can’t Do It. That film was nominated for a total of nine Razzies that year and won four.

10. Quincy Jones claimed he once dated Ivanka Trump

In 2018, music mogul Quincy Jones gave a candid interview in which he dropped several bombshells. One of those was about Trump’s oldest daughter, Ivanka, who Jones said he “used to date” several years back.

The time in which Jones claimed they dated would have put him at 72 and her at 24.

11. Donald and Melania swear they don’t have these

For years Melania and Donald Trump claimed that they did not have a nanny for Barron. Melania stated that the reason for that is because she likes being a “hands-on” mother.

The president agreed that there is a downside to having someone assist in taking care of your kids saying, “If you have too much help, you don’t get to know your children.”

12. All of Trump’s kids went to his alma mater except one

Donald Trump graduated from the University of Pennsylvania and so did all of his children; well all except one. Eric Trump did not go to the Ivy League school and instead went to Georgetown University, the same school Ivanka attended for two years.

So it will be interesting to see which school Barron ends up choosing.

13. Donald Trump’s ex-wife accused him of ‘rape’

Donald Jr., Eric, and Ivanka’s mother accused her ex-husband of assault in the past, but years later clarified what she really meant by that. After the Daily Beast published a story in 2015 that Ivana accused her ex of “rape” during a deposition in the ’90s, she disputed the claim and said that she did not mean “rape” in a “criminal sense.”

“I have recently read some comments attributed to me from nearly 30 years ago at a time of very high tension during my divorce from Donald. The story is totally without merit,” Ivana told CNN. “Donald and I are the best of friends and together have raised three children that we love and are very proud of.”

14. Ivanka converted to Judaism

Before they got married, Ivanka and Jared Kushner had different religious beliefs and his parents would not allow them to get married because she wasn’t Jewish. The pair broke up for some time but got back together after she decided to convert for him.

They tied the knot in 2009.

15. The Trumps have their own winery

Even though the president doesn’t drink alcohol, he apparently owns his own winery — or does he? In August, Donald Trump said he owned the Trump Winery in Virginia. “I own actually one of the largest wineries in the United States that’s in Charlottesville.”  But according to the winery’s website, that’s not accurate.

The disclaimer states that Eric, not Donald Trump is actually the person who controls the winery and that it is not “owned, managed, or affiliated” with The Trump Organization in any way.
