The Island viewers unimpressed over "elephant" comment

Tonight’s (April 16) episode of The Island with Bear Grylls wasn’t as nasty as last week’s, which was hit with bullying claims, but the campmates were still at each other’s throats.

Most of the show focused on Mercedes, a scrap metal site worker who went on the series to prove that she was able to do it despite being 24 stone.

Mercedes first clashed with campmate Sammy, who accused her of being lazy and not putting any effort in.

Their tension came to a head after Mercedes set out with a rafting team, but she had to have medical attention after three hours at sea. Once she had finished vomiting and was given the all-clear, Mercedes went for a little lie down, which was when the rest of the camp decided to eat a fish that had been caught earlier.

Mercedes and Sammy then had a heated argument, which led to Mercedes spending the night at the rich people’s camp, and finally deciding to quit the show the next day.

But as the other contestants watched the row, posh campmate Barnes made an off-hand comment that it was like watching animals turn on a dying elephant. As you might expect, viewers weren’t exactly impressed with the analogy:

The Island with Bear Grylls continues next Monday (April 23) at 9pm on Channel 4.
