Contrary to the title, Max Mad: Fury Road was Imperator Furiosa’s film. Charlize Theron’s one-armed, shaven-headed warrior is the absolute highlight of the movie, and we would absolutely love to see more of her.
Turns out a script has already been written and Theron is totally on board.
“I’d love to,” she said, in a interview with Variety. “There were three scripts. They were written as back stories to Max’s character and to Furiosa’s character.
“But at the end of the day, this thing lives and breathes with [director] George [Miller]. I think Warner Bros knows that. We are all waiting for him to show us the way.”
We’re very much hoping Miller will decide this is something he wants to do. Mad Max: Fury Road was one of the most interesting movies of 2015, pleasing the fans but also winning six Oscars and bagging an additional four nominations including Best Picture and Best Director. Not bad at all for a genre film.
The thing is, it did take 30 years for Miller to follow up Mad Max: Beyond the Thunderdome with Fury Road, so let’s hope he’s a bit speedier this time while Theron’s keen.
Sound like the head shaving won’t be an issue though. Theron told Variety that she was really to go for the buzz cut on Fury Road.
“I had just finished a big press tour,” Theron said, referring to Snow White and the Huntsman.
“I’d come home — I was just so done with hair and make-up. The idea of going into a desert for 140 days, and having to do hair and make-up every single day. I was so excited about diving into this character, I didn’t want anything to hold me back from that.
“It think it came from that — just pure exhaustion from hair and make-up. How do I eliminate everything I possibly can and get straight to the business at hand?”
