Among the many amazing things that Parks and Recreation has produced – including Treat Yo Self day and Ron Swanson memes – is Galentine’s Day.
In case you weren’t aware, February 13 is the day you set aside for your female friends – because the next day, AKA Valentine’s Day, can be pretty damn depressing for some.
Let Leslie Knope explain for you:
Many people were celebrating the unofficial holiday yesterday, including those who started the whole thing in the first place.
Yes, some of the Parks and Rec cast – namely Amy Poehler (Leslie), Rashida Jones (Ann Perkins), Aubrey Plaza (April Ludgate) and Kathryn Hahn (Jennifer Barkley) – reunited to prove they are true friendship goals.
Posting a selfie of the group on her Instagram account, Aubrey captioned it: “happy happy galentine’s day. these women keep me alive.”
Rashida also shared the same picture, writing: “Galentine’s Day! Forever and ever.”
Parks and Rec co-creator Michael Schur explained of the special day: “‘Galentine’s Day’ was conceived of as a way to show that Leslie cared as much about Ann, and her many other girlfriends, as she did about her romantic partnerships.
“So every February 13, she took them out to brunch, gave them personalised presents, celebrated their successes, and generally made a fuss about how wonderful they are. Because what’s wrong with setting aside one day a year to think about a group of people you love?”
