Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby can't cope without their phones on This Morning

This Morning today saw Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby subjected to their own personal torture, as they had their phones taken away from them for the duration of the show.

Discussing the news that Simon Cowell gave up his mobile 10 months ago and has since become ‘more focused’, Vanessa Feltz challenged the hosts to give up their phones for today’s show.

“Relinquish, handover! Anything Simon Cowell can do, you two can do better!” she said, as she locked the pair’s phones in a very secure looking safe.

A horrified Phil said: “It’s never out of my hand… I miss you!”

But later on, Phil claimed that Holly was struggling a lot more than he was, and Holly admitted: “At the start of the show, we gave them up as an experiment.

“When I saw this in the script, I thought, ‘This is hardly an experiment!’ But I’m really surprised how much it’s bothering me!”

Viewers at home couldn’t believe just how upset the hosts were at not having access to their phones for two hours:

Phil and Holly were eventually reunited with their devices towards the end of the show, with a delighted Holly stroking her phone and revealing that she had missed more than 30 messages.

Phil was a little less excited as he noticed that he hadn’t missed anything at all – but viewers were pleased to see him get his phone back, as they were missing his entertaining Snapchats:

Hopefully we’ll now be treated to more like his naked gardening pictures…

This Morning airs weekdays at 10.30am on ITV.
