Warning: this article contains spoilers from The Orville episode ‘If the Stars Should Appear’.
While Seth MacFarlane’s The Orville has had less-than-glowing reviews so far, this week’s episode did manage to conjure up something amazing.
Events in ‘If the Stars Should Appear’ saw the crew of the Orville and Captain Ed Mercer encounter a mysterious ship, whose inhabitants are unaware that they are on a ship at all.
In the ensuing events, they discover a message left by the ship’s creator, Dorahl, who is portrayed by a rather familiar A-list face – Liam Neeson.
In clip they witness, Neeson’s character explains how he built the vessel 2,000 years prior to try and reach another planet within three generations, though things went wrong when they were hit by an ion storm.
“We are doomed to drift indefinitely, for space is vast and very dark and very lonely,” he says.
Of course, this is not the first time MacFarlane and Neeson have worked together, after standing-off in A Million Ways to Die in the West… though the less said about that the better.
One of that film’s other stars, Charlize Theron, is also due to cameo in The Orville on next week’s episode.
Meanwhile, Neeson has revealed that he will not be retiring from action movies after all, proving he still has a very particular set of skills.
“It’s not true, look at me!” he said of recent reports. “You’re talking in the past tense. I’m going to be doing action movies until they bury me in the ground. I’m unretired.”
