Wayne Rooney ‘begs Coleen not to do Strictly’ over fears of the Curse

Wayne Rooney is worried that his wife’s new-found confidence after their marital blip last year could spell danger for their relationship – especially if she signs up to this year’s Strictly Come Dancing .

It’s reported that Coleen – who is apparently top of BBC bosses’ wish-list for the hit dancing show – is laughing off Wayne’s concerns about the so-called ‘Strictly Curse’, which has brought about the end of many a showbiz marriage thanks to the close proximity of celebs and professional dancers during their months of training.

And Wayne is said to be concerned that their marriage may not survive if Coleen goes ahead with her plans to take back a bit of control, after he was convicted of drink-driving last year.

"Wayne’s concerned about Strictly for a lot of reasons. It drags their problems into the public eye again," a friend told the Sun.

"He’s also very aware what happened with Louise and Jamie Redknapp.

"Coleen has laughed that off and doesn’t see the curse as a reason not to do the show."

Coleen is said to still be "furious" with her husband over his humiliating drink-drive scandal, which happened when he was stopped by police after a night out and was found with party girl Laura Simpson in the passenger seat.

To make matters worse, Coleen was pregnant with the couple’s fourth child at the time and later said she thought her marriage might end.

In a public Facebook post in November, Coleen blasted Wayne as making "silly and selfish mistakes" and questioned whether he would ever change.

Speaking about their "s**t" time – some of which had been spent apart – Coleen indicated that she was willing to forgive Wayne once again.

"I know I would be fine on my own, with just me and my children, but I don’t want to live like that, I want to try and continue our marriage and live as a family, because that’s what I want to do," she told her followers.

"I’m not saying everything is fine and forgotten about, but we are as good as can be at this point."

It was thought Coleen had initially been approached by the BBC last year, but wasn’t able to compete in Strictly because she fell pregnant.

Now she’s been given the same opportunity and must make up her mind soon so she can start training.

"Her confidence has been knocked with all that’s gone on with her and Wayne and this could finally be her chance to shine," the Sun’s source went on.

"But she doesn’t have long to decide."

As the Mirror reported last week, signing up Coleen would be win-win for the Beeb.

"It would be Coleen’s chance to step out from Wayne’s shadow and prove she’s not just a footballer’s wife," said our insider.

"And it would mean Wayne would be in the audience, which is sure to be a ratings hit."

Mirror Online has contacted Wayne and Coleen’s reps for comment.
