AN armed robber’s girlfriend who lied to provide him with an alibi dodged jail because a judge decided she may not cope behind bars.
Lisa Sudale, 35, told police she was having a bath with Junior Laing, 28, when he was actually on the £39,000 raid.
She was exposed by phone records showing she rang him 16 miles away around the time he was robbing a jeweller’s shop in September 2014.
CCTV caught Laing hitting jeweller Alan Carter, 70, with the butt of a shotgun.
Laing was found guilty of conspiracy to rob and jailed for 16 years.
Sudale, of Swadlincote, Derbys, was convicted of perverting justice at Warwick crown court.
Recorder Jacqueline Carey suspended her two-year jail term for 18 months, and ordered her to do 150 hours’ unpaid work and pay £600 court costs.
She told her: “This was a deliberate lie. But I do have concerns about your ability to cope with a prison sentence.”
