A man was mugged while walking down Fifth Avenue in broad daylight Wednesday when a knife-wielding assailant attacked him, witnesses and authorities said.
The Irish national was walking near St. Patrick’s Cathedral at about 10 a.m. when Cecil Richardson, 57, approached him, according to police.
The thief displayed his weapon in front of the Hollister store between West 52nd and West 53rd streets and demanded money.
The 25-year-old victim — who has a temporary Manhattan address — handed over $80.
Richardson ran off, but was apprehended by police minutes later.
The weapon was believed to be a knife with a red handle.
Richardson was charged with robbery and criminal possession of a weapon.
