MEGHAN Markle almost didn't make it as a famous actress after years of being told she was "not thin or pretty enough".
The future royal, who will wed Prince Harry in May, revealed she suffered hundreds of failed auditions during a decade-long battle to get regular TV work.
In an open letter, written by Meghan to Darling Magazine in 2015, the actor told of her struggle to work in the industry.
She wrote: “I was trying to find my value in an industry that judges you on everything that you’re not versus everything that you are.
"Not thin enough, not pretty enough, not ethnic enough, while also being too thin, too ethnic, too pretty the very next day."
But her "wake-up call" came at an audition with casting directing April Webster who has hired actors for box-office hits including Star Wars and Mission Impossible.
Meghan said: "I had never met her before, and at my very first audition for her, she stopped me mid-scene and said so simply, “You need to know that you’re enough.”
"My gut reaction was to smile. To smile hard. Maybe that would keep the tears tucked behind my draping eyes.
"She went on to say that I was like a “shrinking violet,” wilted joy and energy and exuberance behind this shroud of insecurity. You couldn’t pay for a therapy session this good.
"And that moment, for me, was a wake-up call."
Meghan moved to Los Angeles as a teenager in a bid to make it as an actor.
When she was just 18 years old she went for a role in Shakira's new music video.
In footage obtained exclusively by The Sun, Meghan the jobbing actress is giddy at the prospect of the potential gig.
The shy and inexperienced youngster revealed how nervous she was to dance in front of five people "just watching me" before the audition.
The home videos are a million miles away from Meghan's life now, with the US actress to become the Duchess of Sussex after her May wedding to fifth-in-line to the throne Prince Harry.
Becoming one of the most talked-about women in Britain, Meghan is now keenly watched for her style, with rumours already abounding over who will design her wedding dress.
It's now believed Meghan has quit showbiz altogether, telling her agent and Hollywood friends she is not interested in any further acting or other paid work following her engagement to Prince Harry.
