Amanda Gorman says she wants to run for president in the future

Amanda Gorman, 23, says she’s seriously considering running for president in the future… after reciting a poem at Joe Biden’s inauguration

Amanda Gorman confirmed that she hopes to be at another inauguration sometime in the future — but as the president taking the oath of office.

The 23-year-old poet shared her ambitions during a virtual chat on The Ellen DeGeneres Show on Tuesday, where she admitted that she has dreamed of running for president for years.

Gorman previously became the youngest inaugural poet in American history after she recited her poem The Hill We Climb to mark Joe Biden’s swearing in as the 46th president of the United States.

High hopes: Amanda Gorman, 23, said Tuesday on The Ellen DeGeneres Show that she hopes to run for president of the United States in the future

She was pictured in front of a home library full of seemingly color-coordinated books while she added a splash of color herself with a mosaic-style outfit and a canary yellow headband.

DeGeneres got on the topic after asking Gorman if she had ‘always wanted to be president of the United States.’

‘This was a dream that I think came into existence around 6th grade,’ she explained.

She got the idea after one of her math teachers jokingly suggested she run for president because she was a ‘very passionate, feisty girl.’

In it to win it: Her twin sister took her plans so seriously that she wouldn’t let herself be photographed at a college party. ‘”Don’t get a photo of me. My sister is running for president 25 years from now. I can’t have an image coming up then,”‘ Gorman quoted

‘You know what? That tracks,’ she said to laughter from the host. ‘Let’s put that on the bulletin board for the future.’

It helped that she had early buy-in from her family members.

‘And it’s something that my family takes very seriously because when I say something, I mean business,’ she added.

Her twin sister Gabrielle was serious enough about Amanda’s ambitions that she was cautious about even being included in photos at college parties.

‘She’d say, “Don’t get a photo of me. My sister is running for president 25 years from now. I can’t have an image coming up then.”

‘So we really all hold ourselves accountable to the dream,’ the writer and activist continued.

Endorsement: DeGeneres was seemingly inspired and said ‘We’re 100 percent behind you’ as one of her assistants brought out a fake campaign memorabilia, including ‘Amanda Gorman for President’ shirts

Not too far away: Gorman has previously said she wanted to run in 2036, so that was the year DeGeneres chose for the shirts and smaller campaign items
