Britain’s Got Talent final 2019: Judges and audience (including Cheryl) are left TERRIFIED as daredevil Jonathan Goodwin appears to get TRAPPED in a box of grain

Britain’s Got Talent’s 2019 finalists wowed viewers and the audience as the show kicked off on Sunday night at the Apollo in Hammersmith, London.

And one act in particular sent everyone into a frenzy, including singer Cheryl who was at the Apollo to witness the finale in person.

Jonathan Goodwin – who has impressed on the series with his daredevil stunts – performed a routine in a clear box suspended from the ceiling, which was gradually filled with grain.

Death-defying: Each act wowed viewers and the audience at the Britain’s Got Talent finale on Sunday – with one in particular sending everyone into a frenzy, including Cheryl who was at the Apollo to witness the finale in person

Known to kill those who become immersed in it, the grain filled the box, engulfing Jonathan who disappeared out of sight.

The judges – Simon Cowell, Alesha Dixon, David Walliams and Amanda Holden – as well as Ant & Dec, the audience and Cheryl were seen panicking as they watched on.

Even the health & safety team appeared on stage when it seemed that the act had potentially gone wrong.

After a tense moment – which felt like hours – Jonathan eventually reached his hand out of the top, pulled the cord and released the trap door, letting the grain spill to the stage.

Jonathan then dropped out of the box, looking a little flustered and very relieved.

‘What is wrong with you?’ Alesha asked him. ‘I think you are the next David Blaine.’ Amanda then remarked: ‘It was scary and horrifically brilliant.’

Afterwards, he said: ‘The rush that you get when you bury yourself and you didn’t die is epic!’

Jonathan didn’t go on to win the series, with war hero Colin Thackery taking the crown.

The 89-year-old, who served in the military for 25 years, first captured the hearts of the nation when he auditioned for the show singing We’ll Meet Again as a tribute to his late wife, Joan, who he married in 1950 before being sent to Korea.

Having sailed through to Sunday’s final, Colin was announced as the winner of the show by hosts Ant & Dec, with the Chelsea Pensioner claiming he was ‘astonished’ at the news.

‘I am stuck for words for a change,’ the charismatic fan-favourite quipped. ‘Thank you very much, all of you, all the backing I’ve had.’

Earlier in the show he declared he could ‘die happy’ if he won the series. The prize for the show is £250k plus a slot at the Royal Variety Performance, singing before the queen.

Colin said: ‘I have served her for 25 years, to sing in front of her would be a dream come true.’
