Christina Grimmie’s mother loses cancer battle

Christina Grimmie’s mother, Tina, has died, two years after the singer was killed following a Florida concert.

“We are saddened to announce the loss of our beloved Tina, also affectionately known as ‘Mama Grimmie’ to the millions of fans of Christina Grimmie around the world,” the Grimmie family said in a statement on Sunday. “She will be missed immensely.”

The statement explained that Tina had been battling cancer for many years and that she was surrounded by family in her final hours.

“We rejoice at the thought that Tina and Christina are united once again in the presence of our Lord and Savior,” added the family. “Tina Grimmie was a powerful and shining example of motherhood, being an amazing wife while giving love and encouragement to others. Her laugh, energy, passion and joyful spirit will eternally be a part of all of us.”

Christina, who was a YouTube sensation and star of “The Voice,” was killed in 2016 while greeting fans after a concert in Orlando. She was 22.

The gunman fired at her head then killed himself as he was tackled to the ground by the singer’s brother, Marcus.

In lieu of flowers, the Grimmie family is asking for supporters to give donations to the Christina Grimmie Foundation in Tina’s honor.
