Ciara has released a fierce video for “Rooted” as her tribute to Black excellence, culture and motherhood.
The music video, which bares her baby bump, was shot just two days before the singer gave birth to a son. Winn Harrison, her third child, was born three weeks ago.
Ester Dean also sings on the track, featuring cameos from Ciara’s elder children, Future and Sienna.
The video, directed by Annie Bercy, contains footage of Black Lives Matter protests, images of demonstrators holding up George Floyd’s photo, Black dancers, families and young mothers.
“All my songs come with melanin/ Got the heart, got the soul like Harriett/ A queen since she born, that was evident/ That’s evidence, of black excellence,” Ciara sings.
The 34-year-old-singer, songwriter, dancer, and model winds up by giving a message: “To all my young Rosa’s and Young Luther’s keep marching. Don’t stop fighting for what you believe in. To all my Black queens and kings, continue to plant and spread seeds of love, hope and pride in your tribe. Everything you need to survive and thrive is rooted in you. Stay rooted.”
