EXCLUSIVE: Cher ‘still cares’ for toy-boy lover Alexander ‘A.E.’ Edwards, 37, and pals say the pair could even REUNITE – as the legendary singer celebrates her 77th birthday

Cher is celebrating her milestone 77th birthday today, and despite recently becoming single again, friends of the star reveal she may still spend her big day with someone special.

The If I Could Turn Back Time crooner split from her toy-boy Alexander ‘AE’ Edwards – who is nearly four decades her junior –  just weeks ago, but pals say the pair still have strong feelings for one another.

A source close to the star tells DailyMail.com that the 77-year-old icon (born Cherilyn Sarkisian) has had an on/off relationship with the 37-year-old AE sparking rumors of a possible reunion.

‘Cher is mercurial. And she changes her mind every minute,’ a source reveals. 

The source explained: ‘She actually really cares about AE, and now that she’s closer to her kids, she wants more stability in her life. Although it’s off for now, no one in her close circle would be surprised to see them back together.

On/off flame: But despite being single again just weeks after her split from toy-boy Alexander ‘AE’ Edwards – who is nearly four decades her junior – friends of the star tell DailyMail.com exclusively she still has feelings for the music producer; as the two are seen on their last outing together at the Versace fashion show in West Hollywood back in March 

It appears that it will be smooth sailing for Cher when it comes to her birthday plans though it remains unclear if AE will be partaking in the fun.

The insider adds of the upcoming celebrations:  ‘Her bestie jewelry and candle designer Loree Rodkin has been hoping to arrange a private party with some of Cher’s closest friends, her kids now, her sister Georganne LaPiere and her husband, and various friends she’s had forever.’

This comes just weeks after reports that the megastar and her toy-boy have ended their relationship, after more than six months of dating, according to TMZ. 

While it’s still not clear who initiated the split, sources also revealed the couple was not engaged, contrary to rumors that have surfaced over the past few months.

The singer shared a massive diamond ring she was given by Edwards on Christmas, leading to speculation he popped the question. 

However, sources now contend that they were never actually engaged and decided to, ‘play into the speculation it was an engagement ring.’

Cher hasn’t commented publicly on the split, and hasn’t been active on Twitter or Instagram since March.

Cher was spotted holding hands with him outside West Hollywood hotspot Craig’s, before heading to The Nice Guy in early November.

Later that month, she admitted their relationship, ‘looks strange on paper’ though she added, ‘love doesn’t know math.’

When a fan asked on social media what Edwards’ best qualities were, she said, ‘He’s kind, smart, hilarious… & we kiss like teenagers.’

However Cher ignored fans concerns by saying: ‘I’m in love, not blinded by it’.
