  • Carpool Karaoke sees the comedian ‘drive to work’ with the help of musical stars

From Adele to Stevie Wonder, Elton John and Celine Dion – James Corden has had the biggest stars on his Carpool Karaoke episodes.

Corden and Adele were brought to tears as they reunited for a final Carpool Karaoke session, ahead of his last episode of The Late Late Show.

The British comedian hailed the ‘brilliant adventure’ of his time stateside, but reiterated that it was ‘time to go home’ as the long-time friends looked back on his tenure of the US talk show.

Talking about it being his very last carpool, James admitted that he was ‘excited’ and ‘scared’ with Adele agreeing: ‘Yeah I bet.’

‘I don’t know – it’s been a crazy eight years, in one sense it feels like it’s gone like that (clicks fingers) and in another I feel like I don’t remember what life was like before being here,’ a teary-eyed James said.

Carpool Karaoke has been one of his most popular segments, and sees the comedian ‘drive to work’ with the help of various musical stars, while singing songs from their back catalogue.

It has featured titans of the music industry including Sir Paul McCartney, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Billie Eilish and One Direction.

Here are some of the most iconic Carpool Karaoke videos from over the years.

James Corden has had many celebrities on his show – where they’ve shared laughs and tears

Stevie Wonder sings his heart out to ‘Superstition’

The Late Late Show host was joined by soul legend Stevie Wonder and nothing could have prepared him for the scenes that unfolded en route to the television studio in the hilarious sketch which eventually reduced him to tears.

Before James could even get the tunes playing, Stevie started mimicking his British accent.

And in between singing their hearts out to Stevie’s best hits – including Superstition, All Over and Sir Duke – James requested he phoned his wife Julia Carey as she was struggling to believe he was sharing a car journey with the man himself.  ‘I just called to say, James loves you,’ he sang, serenading her.

James couldn’t believe his eyes or his ears when Stevie changed the lyrics and crooned to Julia: ‘I just called to say he loves you and he promised me he’ll let me be on his show for an hour.’

It all proved too much for the former Gavin & Stacey actor who held his head in his hands and wiped streaming tears from his cheeks.

Celine Dion belts out ‘All By Myself’ as she’s left alone

Celine Dion stunned fans in 2019 after she appeared in Carpool Karaoke for The Late Late Show with James Corden in a session filmed in Las Vegas, Nevada.

One particularly hilarious moment during the carpool segment was when James forgot to fill up the car with petrol.

In the bonus video, he confessed to needing to stop and get fuel, which received an exaggerated expression from Celine.

She then decided to turn on the radio while James was outside pumping the gas, and the song to come on was All By Myself. The video continued with Celine incredibly belting out the song while James stood outside waiting for the tank to fill.

Sir Paul McCartney reveals meaning behind ‘Let It Be’

Sir Paul McCartney shared the origins behind his smash hit Let It Be as the legendary singer took Corden on a tour of his stomping ground in Liverpool.

Sending the talk show host into tears, the award-winning pop star revealed the iconic song was based on a dream about his late mother Mary, who reassured Paul with positivity.

He said: ‘I had a dream in the 60s about my mum, who died when I was young. She came to me and reassured me, saying ‘it’s going to be okay, just let it be.’

The belter added: ‘I felt so great, she gave me such positive words. She said ‘let it be’, so I wrote the song!

In 2016 Corden set his sights on the White House, where he enjoyed a singalong with then First Lady Michelle Obama.

As James drove his vehicle around the lush green grounds of the executive residence, he and Michelle sung a range of soulful hits – and were even joined by rapper Missy Elliott.

After displaying their hand-twirling moves to Beyoncé’s hit Single Ladies, Missy jumped into the back seat of James’s SUV to rap along to the track This Is For My Girls.

The track was commissioned by Michelle from a star-studded list of female musicians to benefit the Peace Corps’ Let Girls Learn Fund.

Ed Sheeran talks about using his guitar as ‘an armour’

Modest Ed Sheeran made his much-anticipated appearance on James Corden’s Carpool Karaoke in 2017, during which he said he was ‘an unfortunate looking kid’ – leading to God granting him his talent.

The 26-year-old Shape Of You hitmaker was tickling viewers as he belted out some of his top hits with the Gavin And Stacey star shortly before shoving a whopping 55 Maltesers in his mouth at one time.

In a rare moment of seriousness, Ed admitted he uses his guitar as ‘an armour’ before joking of his youthful looks: ‘I was so nervous about coming on this show because I couldn’t see what was funny about me singing my songs.

‘As soon as I took out my guitar it was funny. As a person I can have conversation and be personable but musically if you stand me there with a microphone (without a guitar) I feel a bit naked but I’ve been glued to this guitar since i was like 11.

‘It was just a way if it ever feels awkward I just take out my guitar. I was quite an unfortunate looking kid and I feel like God looked down on me and thought you need help getting laid mate.’

Mariah Carey gets festive for Christmas special

It was an all-in Carpool Karaoke as Mariah Carey and James Corden got a little help from their friends in performing the diva’s hit All I Want For Christmas in December 2016.

The segment started out as always – albeit a lot more festive – with the late show host picking up a singing star but ended with everyone from Adele to Lady Gaga to Elton John belting out the popular Christmas tune.

James asked the star what she wanted for Christmas.

Mariah replied: ‘I don’t know, I don’t want to ask for something that is too expensive, something too much… I want you to sing me song All I Want For Christmas Is You.’

In the cut scene, the group order an array of food from a McDonald’s Drive-Thru, with Louis even giving back his chocolate milkshake after realising he didn’t want it.

The group and James even did some synchronised dancing while in matching outfits for one rendition, while the presenter joked that the group would have to ‘hold it in’ if they wanted to go to the toilet.

In another segment, Harry, Liam, Louis, and Niall took part in a dodgeball match and had an amusing time on court while James acted as their coach.

Cruising around the streets of Los Angeles, Elton John and Corden kicked back as they belted out the tunes to some of Elton’s classics including, Your Song, I’m Still Standing and Don’t Let the Sun Go Down On Me.

During his appearance on the segment, the British musical legend slipped into a variety of flamboyant outfits.

Elton also talked about how fatherhood to his boys has made him a much happier man.
