Goldie Hawn admits she ‘cries three times a day’ due to the pandemic as she discusses her experience of lockdown and her long-lasting relationship with Kurt Russell

Goldie Hawn admitted that she ‘cried three times a day’ when she thinks of how people are coping in confined spaces during the coronavirus pandemic.

The actress, 74, told how ‘lucky’ she was that she had a spacious Hollywood home as she opened up on her own experiences with lockdown.

During a chat on Thursday’s Good Morning Britain with Susanna Reid and Piers Morgan, Golden also discussed the secret of her long-lasting relationship with partner Kurt Russell, 69.

Speaking via video link from Los Angeles, the Death Becomes Her star began by opening up about looking after her mental health while refined at home.

She explained: ‘I think we are in a rarefied world, we have lovely houses and places to be, my family live very close and we do a lot of social distancing. We now are making sure we have been tested enough to make sure we can be a little closer.

‘I’m a very busy person… for me, it made me look at the moment that matters… I actually felt even though I was stuck in a house, and I had to figure out all the things we needed to do just to survive, whether it was cooking and fixing and having someone, actually because I am older now, go to the market and pick things.’

However, in talking about her own life, it made her reflect on those who don’t have as much as herself and who may be confined in small spaces in difficult situations.

The star admitted she often weeps when she thinks of those suffering and revealed how ‘lucky’ she was about her own situation. 

She told the hosts: ‘We are very lucky and I’m incredibly grateful, but I do feel a tremendous angst and a tremendous sadness. 

‘I find every day I cry probably three times a day because it hurts me to think that there is abuse going on, anger going on and this all has to do with confinement, fear and uncertainty about what is going to happen. It’s catastrophizing. 

‘This is where we teach our kids how their brains work… they know now how to calm their brain… they know they need a brain break.’

Goldie went on to discuss her ‘laughing challenge’ in which she encourages families to film themselves laughing and post it online in a bid to help cope with anxiety.

Discussing the laughter challenge, she said: ‘One of the things with laughter… it’s actually very good for your body and it’s fantastic for your brain… the fear factor is that in many ways it can be just as dangerous as the pandemic.

‘If you can live right now, we can enjoy these moments.’

The Overboard star went on to discuss the secret of her 37 year relationship with with Kurt Russell.

She replied: ‘Forgiveness… we fall in love but all people will not be all things to us… life together can be difficult but if you really care about someone and you really like them and you have to have a good sex life, I think.

Goldie and Kurt recently shared a giggle as he tickled her while she launched her Laughing Challenge on Instagram. 

The actress encouraged fans to post videos of themselves or their families laughing to alleviate tension and sadness amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

But as she tried to make the announcement in an Instagram video Kurt kept lowering a branch into the frame and brushing it against her to make her giggle.

Goldie, who became a star on Rowan & Martin’s Laugh-In in the 1960s, told her fans she had a ‘really, really good idea.’

She explained: ‘I know laughter is like so important. It helps so many parts of our being and it’s great for our health.’

The Shampoo star said that ‘if we could just laugh just once a day – you know, a baby laughs on an average of 72 times a day. This is something I read. And I wonder, where did that laugh go?’

She continued: ‘So let’s just do a challenge, all of us, and if you could film your kids laughing, you laughi- ‘

At that moment Kurt, who was wearing a mask and gloves despite the fact he and Goldie were in their own home, brushed her face with his tree branch.

Goldie kept laughing when she was tickled but also kept playfully telling her man to ‘Stop it!’ and ‘Go away from me!’

Kurt eventually hung a mask from his branch and dangled it in front of Goldie, admonishing her: ‘You need to wear your mask.’

‘Oh my god, honey, we live together, okay?’ she pointed out, although she eventually caved and put the face covering on.

Giggling behind her mask she said: ‘Laugh guys and shoot it and put it all over and let everybody know that there is a piece of us that everyday can feel happier.’
