Home Alone viewers baffled after realising who the police officer is

Home Alone viewers are all baffled after only just realising who the police officer is… but did you spot the key detail?

Thirty-two years after the first legendary Home Alone film hit our screens and some fans are just realising who the police officer at the start is.

Sergeant Larry Balzak, who only appeared at the start of the film, attempted to get someone’s attention while the McCallister kids ran wild with no adults in sight.

The officer warned Kevin’s father Peter that there are ‘a lot of burglaries around the holidays’, so he wants to make sure the family is taking the proper precautions.

Peter then reveals all, explaining the family has automatic timers for the lights and locks on the doors.

With the cop finding out the family jet off on holiday the next again day, he happily leaves and doesn’t appear in the film again. However, the actor who plays him, Joe Pesci does and fans are only just realising.

It turns out the cop is also one of the wet bandit robbers Harry and was in fact looking for information to help him break into the lavish house.

Unlike many of the other actors in the film, Joe was already a massive star, best known for his portrayal of Tommy DeVito in Goodfellas, which came out just months before Home Alone.

In 1991, he won the supporting actor Oscar for his role in the crime drama directed by Martin Scorsese.

He reprised his role of Harry Lime next to Daniel Stern’s Marv Merchants for the second installment of the Home Alone franchise.

Despite other successful roles in films such as Casino, My Cousin Vinny, Gone Fishin’ and Lethal Weapon 3 and 4, the actor kept out of the limelight after 1999, announcing his retirement from acting to focus on his music career.

Pesci, who is now 79 years old, came out of retirement to star in the 2019 film The Irishman, which earned him an Oscar nomination.

He also stars as Pete Davidson’s grandfather in Bupkis, the forthcoming Peacock comedy series based on a fictionalized version of Davidson’s life.
