How Cindy and Meghan McCain reacted to Joe Biden’s win

Some Americans wondered who Cindy McCain and Meghan McCain were rooting for in the 2020 election. Of course, they’re proud Republicans, as the widow and daughter of Senator John McCain. Even so, the McCain family has had a decades-long relationship with Joe Biden. Cindy made her stance known, endorsing Biden in September 2020. Prior to that, Cindy even spoke at the Democratic National Convention.

In April 2020, Andy Cohen asked Meghan who she was voting for during on Watch What Happens Live. She didn’t outright say that she was voting for Biden, but she very strongly implied that he would get her vote. The View host said, “I keep telling everyone I promise you, you will know who I’m voting for.” Meghan teased, “It really shouldn’t take a rocket scientist to know there’s one man who has made pain in my life a living hell and another man who has literally shepherded me through the grief process. This really shouldn’t be rocket science for people.”

Among other things, Meghan might have been referring to Trump calling her father a “loser” at an event in 2015, which he denied five years later, despite the many receipts verifying that he did user the “L” word to describe the late senator. He even tweeted an article quoting him using the insult, seemingly verifying that he said it. Considering all the history between the McCains with both Trump and Biden, people want to know how Cindy and Meghan reacted to Biden’s win.

Meghan McCain thinks Joe Biden will lead the country 'toward healing'

When Joe Biden won, Meghan McCain shared a photo of them, writing, “Congratulations Mr. President! ⁦@JoeBiden⁩ – one of the truly decent and moral men I’ve ever had the privilege of knowing. Please lead our nation bravely towards healing and bipartisanship. She even took a shot at Donald Trump for dissing John McCain when she tweeted, “Only a very personal note – I am relieved and look forward to having a president who respects POW’s who have been captured… (*I had to say it).”

She also posted, “President Trump put so many Americans through completely unnecessary and sadistic emotional pain – time and time again for no other reason than he is a sick person. Now he wants to have a pity party because America is done with it?” Meghan seemingly referenced New Yorkers celebrating Biden’s victory when she tweeted, “I can’t imagine if my Dad lost and our hometown of Phoenix erupted in jubilation with people pouring champagne all over each other and singing and dancing. Maybe the Trump’s don’t give a sh*t about their hometown but… yeeeesssshhh…”

Meghan ended the day on a positive note, sharing, “I have a newborn and I gotta catch sleep where I can, so tonight I pray for healing in this incredible country of ours I love so much. May our better angels prevail & let this be the turning of a new leaf to come together as a nation.”

Cindy McCain is happy for her 'dear friend' Joe Biden

While Meghan McCain is very vocal about her political views on both The View and social media, her mother Cindy McCain isn’t quite as outspoken. Instead of digging at the outgoing Donald Trump, Cindy kept things positive with her response to Joe Biden and Kamala Harris winning the 2020 presidential election. Cindy tweeted, “Congratulations to my dear friend and President-elect @JoeBiden Vice-President-elect @KamalaHarris. Its time to move beyond politics and toward building a stronger America. I know Joe will unify the country toward a better future.”

Years prior to this, most people would have never expected the McCain family to publicly support a Democratic candidate in the presidential election, but this time around, given everything going on this world coupled with the McCain-Biden family history, it’s only fitting for Cindy and Meghan to support the president-elect of the United States.
