Wedding Crashers actress Isla Fisher slams Mark Zuckerberg for ‘making money off lies that cost lives’ and says Facebook ‘spreads hate and false information’

Isla Fisher has come out swinging against Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg. 

The actress, 45, told Marie Claire magazine that she feels the social media platform ‘incites violence’ and places some blame on Facebook for the Capitol Hill attack in Washington on January 6. 

‘It is something that we all need to be as proactive as possible about right now. It was clearly the spread of online conspiracy theories that led to the storming of Capitol Hill,’ she told the magazine.

‘And people like Mark Zuckerberg are making money off lies that cost lives, and these social media companies should be creating jobs that save lives. 

‘No account on social media should incite violence, or spread hate or false information.’ 

The Wedding Crashers actress added: ‘I think these companies can afford to hire moderators to prevent misinformation being spread, and to save lives.’

Isla said: ‘People like Mark Zuckerberg are making money off lies that cost lives, and these social media companies should be creating jobs that save lives. No account on social media should incite violence, or spread hate or false information.’ Pictured: Mark Zuckerberg

More than 370 people are facing federal charges in the deadly insurrection of the Capital building, which also sent lawmakers into hiding and delayed the certification of President Joe Biden’s election win. 

Authorities lost control as rioters entered the Capitol building, vandalising and trespassing. Four people died in the chaos.   

Isla and her husband, Borat star Sacha Baron Cohen, have been living in Australia for several months.

The couple relocated from Los Angeles to Sydney, along with their children, in December. 

And while it’s been widely speculated that they moved Down Under to escape the coronavirus pandemic ravaging the US, new reports claim they were actually fleeing America’s tumultuous political climate.

‘They didn’t want to raise their kids in Trump’s America,’ an insider told The Sydney Morning Herald of the couple’s decision to move to Australia.
