Jane Fonda says Jennifer Lopez 'never apologized' for cutting her face

Jane Fonda claims Jennifer Lopez cut her eyebrow during infamous slapping scene in Monster-in-Law and ‘never apologized’

Jane Fonda called out Jennifer Lopez on Thursday when she stopped by The Drew Barrymore Show to promote her new film with Lily Tomlin, Moving On.

The 85-year-old legend – who recently revealed her anti-aging secrets – recalled an incident from her hit 2005 film Monster-in-Law and roasted Lopez, 53, for allegedly cutting her face during their infamous slapping scene.

Fonda claimed Jennifer ‘never apologized’ for the slap-gone-wrong, telling Barrymore that the glamorous superstar cut her eyebrow with ‘this enormous diamond ring.’

Barrymore had asked the two-time Oscar winner what she thought about the romcom, in which Jane played the titular ‘monster-in-law’ opposite Jennifer’s radiant bride.

‘Well, ok,’ began Fonda, diving into the fray. ‘The thing that comes to mind right away is, we have a slapping scene. I slap her, she slaps me, I slap her.’

Ouch: The legend recalled an incident from her hit 2005 film Monster-in-Law and roasted Lopez, 53, for cutting her face during their infamous slapping scene

Fonda went on to give a not-so-subtle dig at the The Wedding Planner star’s grand sense of taste, saying: ‘Well, Jennifer – as per Jennifer – she had this enormous diamond ring.

‘And so, when she slapped me one of the times, it cut open across my eye, my eyebrow. You know, she’s never apologized.’

Monster-in-Law saw Jane inhabit the role of a fallen talk show host who comes out of a career-killing mental breakdown to torment the fiancee of her beloved son in a desperate bid to break them up.

The film’s climactic scene takes place at the dreaded wedding, where Lopez and Fonda slap each other senseless before calling a ceasefire and making amends.

Lopez addressed the scene in 2019 when she posted a video to her YouTube channel and discussed the experience of working with Fonda – and the slap-gone-wrong.

‘I was so afraid to hit Jane Fonda in the face or hurt her in any way, really,’ said Lopez, who went on to give a veiled jab at Jane by saying the iconic star ‘very much’ resembled her unhinged mother-in-law.

‘Her character was very much like her,’ said Lopez, ‘and my character at the time was very much like me. I was so afraid of her and she was so brave and like, “Just hit me. Don’t worry about it, it’s going to be fine.”‘

The Jenny from the Block songstress explained that her back-and-forth with Fonda initially began with some harmless poking before it spiraled into a slap battle.

Sorry not sorry: Lopez addressed the scene in 2019 when she posted a video to her YouTube channel and asserted that she did apologize to Fonda after the slap-gone-wrong. ‘I was like, “Oh, so sorry.” And she was like, “It’s fine. It’s fine.” It was a freaking purple blister that was sticking out and she didn’t care’

“The next thing you know,’ said Lopez, ‘she really went for it on one of those slaps.’

Lopez said that her and Fonda agreed to ‘keep slapping each other’ until they stopped, adding: ‘The scene took on a life of its own in a way that we never imagined. I don’t even think we were supposed to slap each other.’

The Maid in Manhattan star went on to admit that Fonda had a blood blister above her eye and asserted that she did apologize.

‘I was like, “Oh, so sorry.” And she was like, “It’s fine. It’s fine.” It was a freaking purple blister that was sticking out and she didn’t care. She’s such a gangster b**ch. I just love her.’
