Jeremy Clarkson, 60, is known for his love of cars and is often in the front seat taking the steering wheel. But the Grand Tour host has admitted that although his admiration for classic cars hasn’t “diminished” he often struggles with wanting to go out and purchase one.

His comments come after the former Top Gear host reviewed the Aston Martin DB5 after being sent the classic car for a test-drive.

Jeremy explained that he had been in two minds to choose between the Aston Martin and the BMW 3.0 CSL.

He penned: “This doesn’t mean my love of cars has diminished. It hasn’t.

“But because there’s no longer any nutrition if I suckle at the teat of innovation and newness, I’ve been driven into the history books. Or classic car magazines, as they are called.”

Jeremy continued: “Here’s the great peril, though. While it’s fun to leaf through the ads for cars that were built before the upper atmosphere was a thing, and safety didn’t matter, it is emphatically not fun to buy one.”

The Grand Tour host explained in his latest Times column that while many people would love to own a classic car “it might just sit on your drive” because they’re often difficult to navigate on the roads.

“You’d love to own a classic car and you’d love to arrive outside a Mr & Mrs Smith hotel in one. But you would hate driving it very much,” the small-screen star explained.

Meanwhile, the car-enthusiast has since taken a break from his busy work schedule and has jetted off with his girlfriend Lisa Hogan for a getaway trip.

The ex Top Gear star didn’t give further details about his trip on his social media pages.

The father-of-three started dating Lisa back in 2017 three years after his divorce from second wife Frances Cain.

The couple went public with their relationship at the GQ Men of the Year Awards in the same year.

Lisa has three children with her ex-husband Baron Steven Bentinck.

Jeremy also has three children Emily, Katya and Finlo from his second marriage.

The car enthusiast last shared a picture of his partner in June as he announced his farm shop was back open for business.

He wrote: “Diddly Squat farm shop FINALLY open for real.”

A Twitter user has since questioned if the shop will be open while he’s on holiday, asking: “@JeremyClarkson Is your farm shop open during the week?”

Jeremy replied: “It’s a shop so er…”

He later gave fans a glimpse to his summer holiday break after he took to the picture-sharing site and shared a snap of the heavy cloud hanging low over a cruise boat.

In view of his 2.9 million followers, he wrote: “Some weathers.”

Fans took to the comment section, as one person quizzed: “Where are you Jeremy?” while another person added: “That looks scary.”
