MailOnline has contacted a representative for John for comment.

When the sports star bought the property in 2019, it was his fifth property deal in the area in recent years.

He bought the house – set in eight acres of woodland – in the summer during the off season after retiring from playing and setting himself up as a successful property developer.

The stone and flint manor house, which was built in 1752 for the personal chaplain to the Earl of Ellesmere.

As well as a metal spiral staircase, the home had a large ornate fireplace and many other period features.

Before it was renovated, the main house had seven bedrooms, including a master with en-suite bathroom.

Sprawling pile: The estate agent described the Terrys’ property as an ‘elegant and imposing period country house’

In the country: The property description read: ‘It’s a magnificent 18th century brick and flint country house which has been sensitively extended over the years’

It boasted a modern kitchen/diner, master and guest suites and five further bedrooms.

There was also a library and study and a separate barn with the property hidden from view and accessed by a gated gravel driveway.

An annexe also included an en-suite bedroom and two further guest rooms with a self contained kitchenette.

‘The property is accessed via a private drive and is well positioned within its land to take advantage of the views over the gardens.

‘Unusually, for a building of this age and stature, it is not listed property.

Modern twist: The ex-Chelsea defender wanted to revamp the garage at his £4.35million Surrey mansion

All change: Terry wanted to add a staff quarters to the garage, at the 18th century seven-bedroom pad he and wife Toni bought in 2019

Stumbling block: But after furious opposition from angry neighbours, Guildford Borough Council planning chiefs stuck the boot in to some of the star’s grand proposals

Motors: The Premier League star wanted to replace the garage with a larger one to house his expensive car collection

‘The original part of the house was built in 1752 and later extensions were added in the 20th century.

‘The current owners have renovated and refurbished the property during their ownership, reinstating many of the period style features.’

The ex-Chelsea defender wanted to revamp the garage at his £4.35million Surrey mansion, so it can house his flash motors such as a Ferrari 275 GTB and a £2 million Enzo. He also planned to build an outdoor party space by his pool – with a covered seating area and bar.

Terry wanted to add a staff quarters to the garage, at the 18th century seven-bedroom pad he and wife Toni bought in 2019.

But after furious opposition from angry neighbours, Guildford Borough Council planning chiefs stuck the boot in to some of the star’s grand proposals.

He added: ‘No very special circumstances have been demonstrated which would outweigh the inherent harm to the Green Belt.’

The Premier League star wanted to replace the garage with a larger one to house his expensive car collection.

The plans said: ‘The proposed development comprises a detached triple garage with accommodation for ancillary domestic staff within the roof space above to replace, and broadly in the same position as, an existing detached triple garage.

Coming along nicely: The former England captain, who is now Aston Villa assistant coach took to Instagram to share a video of the home

Lovely stuff: John’s impressive property is set in eight acres of land, just a stone’s throw away from his old club Chelsea’s training ground in Cobham, Surrey

Updates! It has a library, stables and tennis court, yet the former footballer and wife Toni were  keen on extending it more with lavish renovations

Summer time! The sporting star also gave a glimpse at the family’s luxury swimming pool and hot tub, which is still being built, and it overlooks the tennis courts

‘And a single-storey covered outdoor seating area – open to each of its four sides – adjacent to the outdoor pool area, following the demolition of the existing garage and a single-storey domestic storage outbuilding.’

The garage would have been 111sq/metres with 460 metres of volume.

They said neither the triple garage or outdoor party area was allowed in that part of Surrey – which has been designated Green Belt to protect it from further development.

In the decision report, case officer Chris Gent said: ‘The proposed replacement garage, by virtue of its size, height, bulk, mass, position and floor area, would be materially larger than the building it is to replace and would have a greater impact on the openness of the Green Belt than the existing development.

‘The proposed covered outdoor seating area constitutes inappropriate development in the Green Belt.’

John bought the plush pad for £4.35million in 2019 and the 18th century house is just a stone’s throw away from his old club Chelsea’s training ground in Cobham, Surrey.

The property was said to be the former footballer’s fifth in the area after having involvement with four others on the nearby Crown Estate in Oxshott, one of Britain’s most expensive areas to live.

Firstly, in 2002, John purchased a six-bed family pad in 2013 before selling it for £5million in 2013.

He then acquired golfer Colin Montgomerie’s house for £6.5 million in 2014 which boasts a two-bed staff annexe, four reception rooms and six-bathrooms.

John and the family lived here for several years, however moved out after the house was burgled while they were on a skiing holiday.

Family: He has been married to wife Toni since 2007 and in 2006 they welcomed twins Summer and Georgie, now 17

He also built a nine-bedroom white mansion nearby in 2011 – which he intended to live in with Toni and their twin children.

However, before they had the chance to move in, they received an out of the blue offer for £16 million from Sultan Qaboos bin Said, the Sultan of Oman.

John also bought another nearby property for £4.5 million in 2017, and lodged plans to demolish it and build two luxury houses in its place.
